Position: Pool Manager
Minimum Age: 16 years old Position Summary The Kern High School District Aquatics Program is seeking qualified, dependable, and experienced individuals to serve as Pool Managers at KHSD aquatic facilities. Under the direction of the KHSD Aquatics Coordinator and/or designated supervisor(s), the Pool Manager provides leadership and oversight for the safe, effective, and professional operation of District aquatic facilities and programs. The Pool Manager leads and directs Lifeguards and Head Lifeguards, supports daily pool operations and aquatic programming, enforces District and facility policies and procedures, evaluates staff performance, and helps ensure the safety of swimmers, students, staff, and facility users. The Pool Manager is expected to demonstrate strong leadership, sound judgment, effective communication, and a thorough knowledge of lifeguarding, aquatic safety, emergency response, and facility operations. Essential Duties and Responsibilities The Pool Manager will:
Training and recertification opportunities may be available seasonally through the KHSD Aquatics Coordinator . Testing Requirements Applicants must successfully complete a general aquatics knowledge and swim capability assessment prior to employment . The assessment is intended to verify the knowledge, skills, swimming ability, and physical capability necessary to safely perform the responsibilities of the Pool Manager position. Pre-Employment Requirements The successful candidate must complete all District pre-employment requirements, including a pre-placement medical assessment and criminal history check , prior to employment. Working Environment The Pool Manager works in and around aquatic facilities and may be exposed to outdoor weather conditions, water, wet and slippery surfaces, pool chemicals, noise, and varying temperatures. The position requires sustained attention to aquatic activities and the ability to respond immediately and effectively to emergency situations. Physical Requirements The position requires the physical ability to perform lifeguarding and aquatic rescue duties, including swimming, entering and exiting the water, assisting or rescuing individuals in distress, performing emergency-response procedures, and handling lifesaving equipment. Pool Managers are expected to maintain the swimming skills, strength, endurance, and fitness necessary to safely perform assigned responsibilities. - Provide leadership, direction, supervision, and support to Lifeguards and Head Lifeguards.
- Lead and motivate aquatic personnel while promoting professionalism, teamwork, accountability, and a strong commitment to safety.
- Ensure lifeguards are properly equipped, prepared, positioned, and effective while on duty.
- Evaluate lifeguard skills, readiness, and job performance and provide clear, professional, and constructive feedback.
- Maintain awareness of activities throughout the aquatic facility and ensure appropriate lifeguard surveillance and safety practices.
- Recognize and respond quickly and effectively to aquatic emergencies.
- Perform and/or direct appropriate victim recognition, water rescue, first aid, CPR/AED, and emergency-response procedures.
- Enforce District and aquatic facility policies, rules, procedures, protocols, and operational standards.
- Promote aquatic safety, accident prevention, and risk-management practices.
- Maintain, inspect, and monitor lifesaving, emergency, and aquatic facility equipment.
- Assist with the safe and effective operation of aquatic facility systems and general pool operations.
- Support District aquatic programs, activities, practices, events, and facility use as assigned.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with lifeguards, coaches, students, District personnel, parents, program participants, community organizations, and members of the public.
- Complete and maintain accurate records, reports, incident documentation, and other required facility records.
- Maintain the confidentiality of personnel, participant, and program information as appropriate.
- Participate in regularly scheduled in-service training and staff development.
- Maintain the swimming skills, strength, endurance, and fitness necessary to perform lifeguarding, rescue, and emergency-response duties.
- Exercise sound judgment, remain calm under pressure, and make timely decisions in emergency and high-risk situations.
- Demonstrate dependable attendance, punctuality, professionalism, and diligence in the performance of assigned duties.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by supervisor(s).
- Strong leadership skills and the ability to lead and motivate lifeguards and aquatic personnel.
- Knowledge and practical understanding of aquatic programs, programming, and facility operations.
- Knowledge and proficiency in aquatic surveillance, victim recognition, water rescue, and emergency-response techniques.
- Knowledge of aquatic safety practices, accident prevention, risk management, and emergency procedures.
- Working knowledge of aquatic facility systems, equipment, and general pool operations.
- Understanding of District and aquatic facility policies, procedures, protocols, and operational standards.
- Ability to evaluate staff skills and performance and provide clear, professional, and constructive feedback.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment, remain calm during emergencies, and make timely decisions in a high-risk environment.
- Strong verbal and written communication, organizational, interpersonal, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Ability to work effectively and professionally with lifeguards, coaches, students, District personnel, parents, program participants, community organizations, and the public.
- Ability to maintain accurate records and documentation.
- Ability to appropriately safeguard confidential personnel and program information.
- Ability to consistently enforce rules and safety requirements in a professional manner.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of the District's aquatics team.
- Have previous experience in lifeguarding and aquatic programs .
- Have demonstrated leadership experience or the ability to effectively lead and direct Lifeguards and Head Lifeguards.
- Possess a thorough knowledge and practical understanding of lifeguard surveillance, victim recognition, rescue techniques, and emergency response.
- Understand aquatic facility operations, systems, equipment, safety requirements, policies, and procedures.
