School Counselor

School counselors collaborate with all stakeholders through a Comprehensive School Counseling Program aligned with the American School Counselor Association National Model and NH (K-12) State Standards in promoting the highest level of student achievement through growth in academic, social/emotional and career domains. School counselors collaborate with teachers, administrators, other schools and school district staff, students, students' family members, and the larger community to help meet all students' needs. School counselors provide positive leadership in their schools, district and communities; engage in advocacy for students and their families; provide community outreach; crisis intervention; and individual and small group counseling and classroom lessons to promote systemic change.

Professional responsibilities include collaborating with other SAU school counselors for the purpose of developing, reviewing, assessing and maintaining the developmental Comprehensive School Counseling Program. Provide individual and small group counseling for the purpose of meeting and supporting individual student needs. Coordinate and deliver a developmental, preventative, and responsive core curriculum to support academic, social/emotional and career development for all students. Identify and develop activities and programs for the purpose of meeting the needs of students in each school. Work with team members to collect, interpret and analyze student related data and use data for program development and individual student planning. Implement developmentally appropriate prevention programs and activities to meet students' needs and to support school and district goals. Provide information/resources and referral and consultation to teachers, families and community agencies and organizations. Collaborate with other educators, administrators, family members and community agencies to assist students with educational planning to ensure students' academic success. This may include IEP, 504, and other individual student plans. Work with receiving schools and outside agencies to support, develop, coordinate and implement programs and activities to enhance students' successful transition from school to school, and /or other related programs. Monitor student progress at the next academic level (middle school/high school). Participate in school and district committees and initiatives. Collaborate with School staff, schools' families and the community to create a positive school climate through the implementation of character education to all students. Maintain organized, clear, accurate, and useful records using technology including Medicaid. Participate as a member of the crisis/safety team. Maintain confidentiality. Perform any additional duties as requested by the School Principal which are consistent with the effective and orderly operation of this position and district goals and mission.

Terms of employment: Salary and work year to be established by the Board. Evaluation: Performance of the School Counselor position will be in accordance with Board policy regarding the evaluation of professional staff. Working environment: Physical ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to move within the classroom and building. The employee is regularly required to see, talk and hear. The employee is regularly required to use hands to manipulate, handle or feel. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, and work at a student level, at tables that may be lower than the standard. The employee is frequently required to supervise students, requiring the employee to match the walking speed of the student. The employee may at times require the ability to move rapidly to safeguard students. Employee must occasionally move equipment and/or supplies. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move school-age students. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. The job is performed for the most part in a school setting with occasional outside weather conditions. The noise level is that of a typical school setting. The employee may be required to drive in order to service students at different sites. Employee is regularly required to handle stressful situations and resolve conflicts.
