She/he must provide support that improves overall quality of education. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Perform under the teacher’s supervision and direction in all areas of school activities and instruction. Assist the teacher with implementing the curriculum. Assist the teacher with setting up learning activities. Assist children with classroom activities. Work individually or with small groups of children. Accompany children to special classes (art, music, physical education). Assist children during breakfast, lunch, and snack. Help maintain a clean and organized classroom. Ensure sanitation of all surfaces, equipment, and materials. Accompany children to the bathroom. Supervise outdoor activities. Assist with dismissal procedures. Actively play with students in classroom and during outdoor learning. Sit in small chairs and on the floor. Lift furniture (e.g., cots, tables). Minimum Qualifications Experience working with young children. Good oral communication skills. Current valid certification in pediatric CPR and First Aid (or obtain within two months). Meets current requirements for Para Professional Certification (Rhode Island Department of Education). Must complete Rhode Island Early Learning and Development Standards Course. Complete 20 hours of professional development each year. Participate in required RIDE professional development. Ability to use age‑appropriate instructional procedures and reinforcement techniques. Exhibits sensitivity and understanding of individuals and cultural differences. Respects confidentiality. Follow verbal and written instructions. Knowledge of general office equipment. Effective communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to learn adaptive technology. Good organizational skills. Physical Demands Work in a variety of positions – sitting, bending, stretching, walking. Required to lift light objects up to 25 pounds; occasional lifting over 25 pounds; lifting over 40 pounds requires two persons.
