Director of Accounting

Rookwood Pottery has been making ceramics in Cincinnati since 1880, and we are hiring the person who owns our numbers. Sales are up double digits, the factory is being rebuilt around one ERP, and this seat sits at the center of it. This is a working controller's job at a company that is both a manufacturer and a retailer, about 70 people. You report to the President, sit on a seven-person leadership team, and own the books, the close, cash, product costing, and the financial side of Global Shop Solutions, our ERP. Two roles report to you. The first-year priority is making product cost real, because a manufacturer that does not trust its costs cannot price. What you will own: The monthly close on a published calendar, with a reconciled balance sheet every month AP, AR, credit cards, and cash, plus the 13-week cash forecast and the annual budget Standard costing in Global Shop: cost rules, roll-ups, work order variances, and scrap and rework in dollars The price floor and margin reporting by SKU, product family, and channel Reporting produced from the system, not by hand, including the weekly Business Review and the monthly ownership package Internal controls, the banking and lender relationships, and the second signature on payroll Just as important, what you will not carry: payroll processing and benefits belong to HR, IT administration belongs to a contracted partner, and production data belongs to Operations. This seat is built so accounting can do accounting. Why take this seat over a bigger one: Authority in writing. The seat comes with a written charter and real decision rights. The close, the cost model, the forecast, and the controls are yours to decide, not to recommend. The work is visible. Your cost model sets the price floor on everything a 146-year-old American brand sells, and you can walk the floor and watch the piece you costed get made. The trajectory. Ownership has backed a full leadership rebuild, and the plan is to roughly double the business over the next three to five years. This seat is one of the four being built to do it. What you bring: 10+ years in accounting, at least 5 in manufacturing, with a monthly close you owned Hands-on standard costing and variance analysis, done yourself, not only reviewed Real depth in the financial modules of a manufacturing ERP such as Global Shop, Epicor, Infor, Sage, Plex, or NetSuite. Global Shop is a real plus Clear, fast written communication. Decisions live in writing here CPA or CMA, and retail or e-commerce revenue experience, are pluses How you will be measured, agreed in writing: the close finished on calendar every month, cost integrity in the ERP, forecast accuracy against actuals, payroll funded on signature every cycle, and working capital against target.
