TxDOT's Public Transportation Division's (PTN) Planning & Program Development Section is looking for a dynamic, self-motivated individual to help administer the Transportation Alternatives grant program for local government-sponsored bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure and planning projects. As a Planner, you will work with a dynamic team to assist with grant program planning and administration, including training, technical assistance, and coordination with internal and external partners. The top candidates must have strong organizational, multitasking, and project management skills and good interpersonal skills. TxDOT PTN works collaboratively across the state to advance multimodal policies and programs.
Planner III: B22 ($57,614-93,138) Planner IV: B24 ($65,104-106,634) This position is for Planner III or IV. The Texas Department of Transportation reserves the sole right in determining the level of position based on the applicant's work experience, education, skill level, and all other appropriate factors, and based on business needs. Work location: The selected candidate's work location may be Headquartered in Austin or any of the following 25 TxDOT District offices located in Abilene, Amarillo, Atlanta, Austin, Beaumont, Brownwood, Bryan, Corpus Christi, Childress, Dallas, El Paso, Fort Worth, Houston, Laredo, Lubbock, Lufkin, Odessa, Paris, Pharr, San Angelo, San Antonio, Tyler, Waco, Wichita Falls, and Yoakum.

Performs complex planning and programming activities in support of management-related programs and/or transportation projects. Work requires contact with departmental managers, high-level executives, governmental/university officials and/or private entities. Employees at this level establish their own work plan and priorities to meet set objectives. Issues are rarely referred to the supervisor but are handled at the occurrence. Essential Duties: Planner III and IV: Reviews and prepares correspondence, reports, studies, gives briefings and makes presentations regarding program activities. Conducts Program Development Meetings with sponsors to identify requirements, exchange information and keep informed on the status of projects. Coordinates planning projects involving districts, divisions, various public transportation interests, research endeavors with universities, other agencies and/or local, state and federal agencies. May serve as project leader. Monitors and analyzes activities of assigned functional areas and provides information that may impact them. Reviews, evaluates and responds to requests from sponsors for state and federal improvement funds. Serves in an advisory capacity to departmental staff. Stays abreast of transportation industry changes and requirements, policies, procedures and legislation. Works with consultants, vendors and other entities. Minimum Qualifications: Education - All Levels : Bachelor's degree in transportation planning, engineering, business admin or related field. Relevant experience may be substituted for degree on a year per year basis. Experience - Planner III : 3 years planning, research or legislative analysis-related activities. (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). Experience - Planner IV : 4 years planning, research or legislative analysis-related activities. (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). Licenses and Certifications : Valid driver's license. This position requires driving a state vehicle. Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor's or master's degree in transportation planning, engineering, business admin or related field. Relevant experience may be substituted for degree on a year per year basis.
