As a district on the rise, our teachers and staff continue to invest in student success, staff excellence, and a strong future for our community.Position SummaryThe Literacy Intervention Specialist is responsible for providing targeted supplemental instruction to students in kindergarten through 5th grade who require additional support to achieve grade-level proficiency in core academic content areas.QualificationsBachelors DegreeMI Teaching CertificationElementary endorsement requiredELA endorsement requiredPre-Employment RequirementsCriminal Background CheckDrug ScreenEssential Duties & ResponsibilitiesDeliver high-quality, standards-aligned instruction based on the curriculum frameworks and academic expectations established by the State of Michigan and Pontiac School District.Implement evidence-based instructional practices aligned to grade-level content standards across all core subject areas during the school day and within structured intervention programs, including before- and after-school support services.Demonstrate expertise in designing and delivering targeted interventions that accelerate academic growth and improve outcomes for students performing below grade level.Scaffold learning experiences that foster critical thinking, literacy development, and student engagement through purposeful reading, writing, speaking, and problem-solving activities.Provide specialized, data-driven instruction that is explicit, intensive, and responsive to individual student needs while offering multiple opportunities for guided and independent practice.Teach and model effective learning strategies that strengthen content knowledge, skill application, and academic independence across all subject areas.Coordinate instructional support across classrooms and educational settings to ensure continuity of learning and maximize student achievement.Develop and utilize a variety of formative and summative assessment methods, including performance tasks, portfolios, rubrics, student reflections, demonstrations, and discussions, to accurately measure student understanding and progress.Use ongoing assessment data to monitor student growth, identify learning gaps, and inform instructional decision-making.Foster a collaborative assessment culture in which students actively participate in monitoring their own learning and reflecting on their academic progress.Design equitable assessments that measure higher-order thinking, problem-solving abilities, content mastery, and skill development.Model effective assessment practices that promote student self-assessment, peer feedback, and ownership of learning.Ensure alignment among curriculum standards, instructional practices, interventions, and measures of student learning.Collaborate with general education teachers, special education staff, administrators, families, and students to develop and implement strategies that support academic success and skill development.Partner with school leadership to strengthen instructional practices across content areas by providing coaching, modeling, professional learning opportunities, and research-based strategies that support effective implementation of core curriculum.Recognize and celebrate student growth, achievement, and positive behaviors while fostering a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment where all students can succeed.Maintain effective classroom management and supervision practices that promote student safety, engagement, and well-being.Engage in ongoing professional learning to expand expertise in literacy development, intervention strategies, differentiated instruction, and the academic needs of diverse and historically underserved student populations.Benefits of Working with PSDCompetitive Medical, Dental, and Vision benefits for full-time employees.
