DESCRIPTION OF WORK
This position carries out laboratory and field analysis to support environmental programs and emergency response activities. The work helps ensure accurate and timely chemical evaluation across many situations. As a Chemist 2, you will perform the following duties:

  • Mobile Unit Operations: Operate and help maintain the Mobile Analytical Unit during routine and emergency situations
  • Sample Analysis: Analyze air and other sample matrices using approved procedures and methods
  • Training Support: Guide and assist other analysts in learning proper sample techniques and procedures
  • Instrumentation Use: Use and maintain specialized instruments, record results, and prepare required documentation
  • Quality Control: Apply quality assurance practices, as well as help lead calibration and record keeping efforts
  • Safety Practices: Follow and promote safe handling, labeling, and disposal of hazardous materials

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Travel is required.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year as a Chemist 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • One year of professional chemical analytical experience, and a bachelor's degree that includes 30 credits in chemistry or biochemistry; or
  • A graduate degree in chemistry.
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within three months of graduating with a qualifying degree.

Condition of Employment:

  • This position requires possession of a valid Pennsylvania driver's license.
