Develop, plan, and implement student programming, including first-year and transfer orientation, first-year experiences, and other initiatives. Work collaboratively with the OSE team as well as partners and stakeholders in CoLA and across UT. This position will report to the Director of Student Engagement and Strategic Initiatives in Liberal Arts Student Affairs and will supervise professional staff within OSE.ResponsibilitiesStudent Transition Initiatives: Serve as the lead for Liberal Arts Student Transition Initiatives, including course offerings.Lead current First-Year Interest Group (FIG) and Transfer Interest Group (TrIG) initiatives in collaboration with UT’s FYE and TYE offices, and develop new initiatives as needed; In consultation with Student Affairs leadership and other CoLA partners, recruit and train staff facilitators and student mentors for student transition initiatives, guiding them through each stage of implementation; During orientation, oversee the selection, assignment, reservations, and communications processes for students and advisors to facilitate enrollment in first-year experiences including FIG/TrIG; In coordination with the Director of the Office of Student Engagement, oversee curriculum development for FIG/TrIG course clusters, LA 101, and new curriculum for student transition programs; Develop online educational materials to educate incoming students on student transition opportunities and programming; Continually assess student transition needs to meet student demand and enrollment.Orientation: Serve as the lead for Liberal Arts Orientation.In close collaboration with Longhorn Orientation and the CoLA advising community, and in consultation with Student Affairs Leadership, manage the coordination of all Orientations (Spring, Summer, Fall, First-Year, Transfer, Family, and related programming) between all Student Affairs units; Responsibilities may include communications, appointments, meetings, presentations, development of educational, promotional and advising materials, training for peer orientation advisors and professional advisors, swag, logistics, and budget proposal, maintenance, and determination of related needs.Supervision: In alignment with the missions of OSE and CoLA, provide leadership and oversight for student and professional staff that support student transition initiatives.Responsible for hiring, training, evaluation, and fostering development of direct reports; Supervise student staff positions related to first-year and transfer initiatives and professional staff positions that manage LA 101 curriculum and the development and delivery of mentor training.Student Affairs: Ensure effective collaboration with OSE areas for continual team and community development.Participate in and support college events including Commencement, Gone to Texas, Honor’s Day, and other yield events; Participate in professional development opportunities and serve on committees; Contribute to the Student Affairs culture by helping to promote new strategies and initiatives; Other related functions as assigned.Data: Manage various metrics regarding first-year initiatives for continued program improvement, including, but not limited to implementation and management of data projects, such as registration metrics, Progress to Degree reports, First Destination Survey, Experiential Learning Survey, and tracking student engagement.Required QualificationsBachelor’s Degree and 5 years of professional experience in student advising/support programming or Master’s Degree and 3 years of professional experience in student advising/support programming; Experience developing, implementing, and evaluating student development programs; Excellent verbal, written, organizational, and interpersonal communication skills; Ability to work well as part of a team and independently; Demonstrated collaboration skills with many different units. The ideal candidate should be innovative, show initiative, demonstrate skills for anticipating changing priorities, and respond effectively to feedback.
