Purchasing Agent

(Chalmette, LA): Flexicrew Technical Services (FTS) is seeking a Purchasing Agent with a minimum of 5 years of experience in procurement and purchasing within fabrication, manufacturing, or industrial environments. The ideal candidate will be responsible for sourcing raw materials, fabricated components, equipment, and services while maintaining cost-effective purchasing strategies and ensuring timely delivery to support production schedules. Strong negotiation skills, vendor management experience, and knowledge of fabrication materials and processes are essential. Essential Duties Source and procure raw materials, fabricated components, equipment, and services required for fabrication and manufacturing operations. Solicit and evaluate vendor quotations, bids, and proposals to obtain the best value for the company. Negotiate pricing, contracts, delivery schedules, and terms with suppliers. Create, process, and track purchase orders to ensure timely delivery of materials. Maintain relationships with existing vendors while identifying and qualifying new suppliers. Monitor inventory levels and coordinate with production, warehouse, and project teams to ensure material availability. Resolve supplier issues related to quality, delivery delays, shortages, and discrepancies. Maintain accurate purchasing records, vendor files, and procurement documentation. Analyze purchasing trends and recommend cost-saving opportunities. Ensure compliance with company procurement policies and industry standards. Requirements/Skills Minimum 5 years of purchasing or procurement experience in a fabrication, manufacturing, or industrial environment. Strong knowledge of fabrication materials, steel products, mechanical components, and industrial supplies. Proven experience negotiating pricing, contracts, and supplier agreements. Ability to read and interpret drawings, material specifications, and purchase requisitions. Experience with ERP/MRP systems and Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel. Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Excellent communication and vendor relationship management abilities. Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. High attention to detail and commitment to accuracy. Physical Requirements Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods throughout the workday. Ability to occasionally visit fabrication shops, warehouses, and industrial facilities. Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds when necessary. Ability to use computers, phones, and office equipment for extended periods. Ability to visually inspect materials, purchase documentation, and inventory records.
