Summary:

Genesis is hiring an experienced Senior Accountant to join our company in our San Diego, California location. This is an exciting position with the opportunity to play a key role in building and managing the company's accounting and operations functions. This position reports directly to the Assistant Controller.

Key Responsibilities:

• Maintains the general ledger and handles the month, quarter, and year-end close process.
  
  • Prepares monthly and quarterly journal entries, including accruals, depreciation, prepaid expense amortization, and other close-related entries;
  • Reconciles accounts including cash, prepaid accounts, fixed assets, liabilities, equity, etc;
  • Analyzes account balances and maintains support for the reconciled balances;
  • Researches variances and proposes resolution;
  • Maintains the revenue recognition schedules.
• Supports all aspects of the accounts payable function.
  
  • Reviews purchase invoices for proper general ledger coding and posting dates;
  • Prepares use tax returns;
  • Prepares property tax returns.
• Participates actively in the annual financial audit process.
  
  • Interacts with the auditors on audit requests;
  • Assists with preparation of schedules and compiling records for the audit.
  • Assists with the preparation of the annual financial statements and related disclosures
• Assists the Assistant Controller and VP of Finance in collecting and providing data for the annual tax returns.
• Other Responsibilities
  
  • Assists with the annual 401(k) audit;
  • Responds to investor information requests;
  • Supports special projects and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field required;
• CPA preferred;

• 3+ years of progressive accounting experience;
• Biotech company experience preferred but not required;
• Strong knowledge and understanding of U.S. GAAP;

• Exercises strong judgment and integrity;
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively across a diverse range of departments and levels, including executive management;
• Ability to proactively identify accounting issues and take the initiative to solve challenges.
