Special Education Assistive Technology Facilitator (Itinerant) - TOSA (IDEA) – School Year 2026-2027 JobID: 7913 Position Type: Certified Professional/ Professional (Non-Campus) Date Posted: 5/14/2026 Location: Special Education Spring Branch Independent School District Job Description Job Title: Special Education Assistive Technology Facilitator (Itinerant) - TOSA (IDEA) Reports To: Director of Special Education Classification: Professional Wage/Hour Status: Exempt Days: 188 Salary: See Compensation Plan for New Hire Guide for Teachers Contract: Probationary/Term Date Revised: 05/09/2025 Primary Purpose: Responsible for assessment, service and recommendations of assistive technology in conjunction with professionals from various disciplines. Qualifications / Skills Education / Certification: Bachelor's degree in a related field. Valid Texas Teacher Certificate or out-of-state Teaching Certificate appropriate for position, or a similar Education Degree, speech pathologist, occupational therapist, etc. Assistive Technology experience preferred. Certification must meet requirements for becoming and remaining qualified for this position in accordance with Federal and/or State law. Special Knowledge / Skills Knowledge and skills regarding a wide range of assistive technology and commitment to professional development; continually working to remain current with technologies and options for students with disabilities. Ability to train individuals and groups to use and understand assistive technology. Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with students, teachers, providers, and parents. Ability to supervise, instruct, motivate and solve problems with co‑workers. Ability to troubleshoot hardware and software issues and quickly grasp new technologies. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in itinerant settings. Major Duties and Responsibilities Assessment Assess students to determine if assistive technology would assist in improving reading, writing, and communication abilities and/or enhance access to the curriculum. Provide consultation and support to staff and students to identify potential assistive technology tools and strategies. Prepare written assessment reports according to district guidelines and timelines in collaboration with other professionals. Instructional Strategies Support use of assistive technology through data collection and data-driven decisions. Adapt specialized assistive devices to individual student needs (e.g., communication devices, joysticks, adapted keyboards, mounts, switch interfaces, eye gaze, etc.) to enhance learning opportunities. Serve as a resource to campuses: observe students, consult with staff, provide education on usage, model effective use, and develop tools for progress monitoring. Ensure technology integration in the classroom. Deliver appropriate coaching, training, and resources to support professional growth in technology use. Advise instructional staff on using various tools to aid content comprehension and student demonstration. Student Growth and Development Train students, family members, and staff on assistive technology devices (e.g., in-service, workshops, group, individual, or web-based sessions). Provide technical assistance to school staff, students, and parents to ensure proficiency with devices, software, and applications. Collaborate with instructional technology and assistive technology staff to meet needs of students and teachers. Attend ARD meetings as necessary. Equipment Management and Organization Maintain documents, files, and records (licenses, usage logs, inventory, etc.) for up-to-date reference. Transport various items (devices, equipment, supplies) to provide materials in the classroom or for repair/ modification. Identify and troubleshoot basic problems with assistive technology programs and devices. Repair assistive devices, peripherals, and request reinstalls of software to maintain safe and functional operation. Communication Support collaboration and communication among school and district staff. Maintain professional relationships with colleagues, students, parents, and community members. Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly in verbal and written form. Collaborate with parents and school personnel on the student’s development in assistive technology use. Professional Growth and Development Attend professional development activities as determined by SBISD. Comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies. Research assistive devices, computer hardware and software applications, vendors, consultants, etc. to stay knowledgeable on trends and recommend acquisitions. Attend and participate in meetings and serve on staff committees as required. Other Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. Ability to work effectively with both adults and children. Must have reliable transportation to travel between various campuses. Perform other duties as assigned. Supervisory Responsibilities None Equipment Used Computer, copy machine, audio visual machines, assistive technology, specialized student equipment, classroom based instructional technology. Working Conditions Mental Demands Maintain emotional control under stress. Work with frequent interruptions. Position requires regular in-person interaction with the public. Physical Demands Frequent standing, stooping, bending, pulling, and pushing. Physical capacity to lift, transfer, and assist students with physical disabilities (lift up to 50 lbs.). Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom equipment. May require occasional extended hours.
