At our organization, we are thrilled to announce an opportunity for a full-time Pediatric Rheumatologist to join the academic faculty within the Division of Pediatric Rheumatology, part of the Department of Pediatrics. Our facility, the only children's hospital in northeastern New York, serves over 740,000 children and young adults across 25 counties in upstate New York, southern Vermont, and western Massachusetts.

Position Overview

We are looking for a board-certified (or board-eligible) Pediatric Rheumatologist to become a member of our well-established academic division. Candidates must have completed an ACGME-accredited fellowship in Pediatric Rheumatology (or Med-Peds Rheumatology) and will be eligible for a faculty appointment at a rank that reflects their experience and qualifications. This position can also be tailored for a Med-Peds Rheumatologist focused on developing a transition program.

About the Division of Pediatric Rheumatology

• The new team member will collaborate with three other Pediatric Rheumatology physicians and one Advanced Practice Provider.
• Support staff includes two full-time nurses, one per-diem nurse, medical assistants, and dedicated administrative personnel for each clinic, along with a research coordinator.
• We have established outpatient clinics, including five satellite locations.
• The division shares an inpatient consulting service and provides after-hours and weekend coverage.
• A well-established procedure clinic and sedation service are available for joint injections.
• Point-of-care musculoskeletal ultrasound is encouraged for faculty interested in training.
• An infusion program is managed by the advanced practice provider and nursing staff under physician supervision.
• We maintain strong collaborative relationships with pediatric subspecialists throughout the Children's Hospital.
• Faculty appointments through our institution will be made at a rank that aligns with experience and qualifications.

• A dedicated Pediatric Rheumatology Clinical Pharmacy Program in partnership with a local pharmacy college, focusing on insurance appeals, letters of medical necessity, patient advocacy, quality improvement, and educational missions.
• The Division Quality Improvement Team (QIT), which includes physicians, APPs, nurses, community leaders, and parent-investigators, actively involved in various quality improvement projects.

• Encouragement for musculoskeletal ultrasound training through USSONAR for interested candidates.
• A developing Pediatric Interdisciplinary Pain Program in collaboration with behavioral health and rehabilitation services for chronic pain patients.
• Collaboration with the Adult Rheumatology Fellowship, where pediatric faculty supervise rotating fellows and engage in didactics, quality improvement, and scholarly activities.
• Regular didactic sessions, including weekly case conferences, joint didactics with adult rheumatology, journal clubs, and monthly meetings for quality improvement and radiology rounds.
• Additional teaching opportunities in various courses and workshops for medical students and residents.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide outpatient consultations and follow-up care in pediatric rheumatology.
• Conduct inpatient consultations when on call.
• Participate in shared after-hours (phone only) and weekend coverage, averaging about once every four weeks.
• Teach and supervise medical students, residents, and other learners.
• Mentor trainees in clinical research and scholarly activities.
• Contribute to division quality improvement initiatives and CARRA registry activities.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across the Children's Hospital.

Qualifications

• MD, DO, or an equivalent degree.
• Completion of an accredited Pediatric Rheumatology (or Med-Peds Rheumatology) fellowship program.
• Board-certified or board-eligible in Pediatric Rheumatology.
• Eligibility for a New York State medical license.
• A strong commitment to clinical excellence, education, and academic medicine.
• Preferred special interests in quality improvement, medical education, musculoskeletal ultrasound, or advocacy initiatives.
