Unit Information

• Unit Name: PCU
• Number of Beds: 630 (34 beds) / 633 (25 beds)
• Patient Ratios: 1:4 to 1:5 on days, 1:5 to 1:6 on nights
• Unit Staffing: 3 technicians when full on 630 unit, 2 technicians when full on 633 unit

• High flow oxygen delivery systems
• Vapotherm
• Alaris pumps
• Cardiac drips
• Heparin drips
• Insulin drips
• Peritoneal dialysis
• Wound vacs in conjunction with wound care

Documentation System

Meditech

Scheduling Requirements

Every other weekend requirement for contract, 3 shifts per week (12 hours each).

Floating Policy

May float between PCU units or to med-surg floors.

Patient Experience Requirements

• Hourly rounding on days
• Every 2 hours rounding on nights
• Utilization of AIDET
• Maintain communication boards on 7th floor (Unit 633 features TV communication boards)

Certifications Required

• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)

Requested Skill Set

• Must Have: BLS, ACLS
• Advanced Skills: ACLS and experience with bipaps, high flow oxygen, and multiple oxygen delivery systems
• Experience with stroke and post-cardiac catheterization care
• Preferred: Peritoneal dialysis experience
• Experience with tube feedings and NG/Dobhoff tubes

Procedures Performed on Unit

• Peritoneal dialysis
• Thoracentesis
• Paracentesis
• Chest tube insertions
• Dobhoff/NG tube insertions
• Central line dressing changes
• Troubleshooting wound vacs

Awards and Recognition

Unit utilizes self-scheduling for a better work-life balance, with schedules created every 4 weeks. Contracts are required to work every other weekend. The unit has a collaborative culture with a strong emphasis on teamwork and patient care. Most travelers extend their contracts after the initial term due to positive experiences.
