Project Engineer

We're seeking a motivated Project Engineer to join a leading mechanical contractor known for delivering some of the region's most complex commercial and industrial projects. This role is ideal for someone who has progressed beyond entry-level engineering responsibilities and is ready to take ownership of major project scopes while preparing for a long-term Project Management career.

You'll work alongside experienced Project Managers while gradually taking on increasing responsibility for project execution, client communication, financial management, and field coordination.
Responsibilities

• Support the successful execution of commercial mechanical construction projects from preconstruction through closeout.
• Manage assigned scopes of work, ensuring projects remain on schedule and within budget.
• Coordinate with owners, architects, engineers, subcontractors, vendors, and field leadership.
• Prepare and manage RFIs, submittals, change orders, purchase orders, and project documentation.
• Assist with estimating, budgeting, forecasting, and cost tracking.
• Participate in owner meetings, coordination meetings, and internal planning sessions.
• Procure equipment and major materials while maintaining vendor relationships.
• Monitor project productivity and identify opportunities to improve schedule and profitability.
• Support subcontract management, contract administration, and project closeout activities.
• Travel to project sites as needed to maintain alignment between field operations and project management.

Qualifications

• 4-8+ years of experience with a mechanical contractor.
• Experience supporting commercial HVAC, plumbing, piping, or design-build construction projects.
• Understanding of project financials, budgeting, forecasting, and cost control.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and construction management software.
• Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field is preferred but not required with relevant industry experience.

Preferred Experience

• Design-build and negotiated work.
• Healthcare, data center, life sciences, higher education, manufacturing, or large commercial projects.
• Exposure to project buyout, procurement, scheduling, and owner-facing responsibilities.
• Experience supporting projects ranging from approximately $5M-$50M+ .
