Under the general supervision of the Telecommunications Systems Operations Supervisor (TSOS I), and/or technical guidance and support of a Telecommunications Systems Technician III (TST III), the TST II is responsible for responding to and resolving public safety communications problems for State Agency clients. The duties are performed by following Federal Communications Commission (FCC) rules and regulations, utilizing at a minimum, office-provided training, complex test equipment, computers, hand tools, the Telecommunications Division Manual (TDM), and technical literature. Incumbent will communicate effectively on all written and verbal interactions, frequently interfacing with customers and co-workers to resolve issues and collaborate. The TST II will maintain a professional and team-centered environment by establishing and maintaining effective working relationships. Incumbent will work proficiently with Microsoft Office products, including Word, Outlook, and Excel. Travel to and working in remote locations, high elevations, and inclement weather conditions may be required. You will find additional information about the job in the Duty Statement . The Public Safety Communications (PSC) Technical Services Branch provides a variety of services to PSC and the public safety agencies it serves. The Branch oversees the California Public Safety Microwave Network (CAPSNET), licensing of public safety radio spectrum with the FCC, and a host of ancillary services that support PSC's service delivery. In the event of an emergency, employees may be contacted and requested to report to work in the event of an emergency. This contact may be outside of your normal working hours (evenings/nights, weekends, and holidays). This service may require irregular work hours, work locations other than the official duty location, and may include duties other than those specified in your official position description. Travel requirements in support of emergency operations may be extensive in nature (weeks to months), with little advance notice, and you may be required to relocate to emergency sites. Telecommunications Systems Technician II - EXAM-2055 Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025) : Effective July 1, 2025, CalHR implemented the temporary Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025), which reduces employee pay in exchange for leave credits. The reduction amount and leave credits vary by bargaining unit. Salary range(s) listed do not reflect this temporary reduction. Training and Development (T&D) : T&D assignments are temporary assignments to provide an employee training and experience to move to a different occupational field. A T&D assignment is a formal agreement between the employee, the current supervisor, and the new supervisor. The duration of agreements can vary in length but shall not exceed twenty-four (24) months. The duration may also be the length of experience needed to meet the minimum qualifications. Please note they are only available to current California State employees who have permanent status.
