Mechanic II

The Dougherty County Public Works department is hiring for a Mechanic II. The purpose of this position is to perform maintenance and repairs on all county vehicles and equipment. This class works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences.

Essential tasks include using diagnostic equipment to evaluate mechanical problems on vehicles, servicing vehicles according to established routine maintenance, performing general repairs on county vehicles including heavy equipment such as repairing brakes, replacing and repairing engines and transmissions, repairing electrical and air conditioning systems, maintaining service logs and records, performing general maintenance on small engines, keeping work area clean and tidy, possessing own tools, and performing related work as assigned.

Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma or GED equivalent and one (1) year of experience in gasoline/diesel mechanic or small engine repair or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement. This includes walking, standing, stooping, jumping, lifting, digging, pushing and raising objects and also involves exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis and 50 to 100 pounds of force on an occasional basis. Unavoidable hazards refer to the job conditions that may lead to injury or health hazards even though precautions have been taken. This includes routine and frequent exposure to bright/dim light, dusts and pollen, extreme heat and/or cold, wet or humid conditions, extreme noise levels, animals/wildlife.

Special certifications and licenses include a valid state Class B driver's license and a Hazardous Material Endorsement (HME) desired.
