Behavioral Health Therapist 2 – Inpatient Behavioral Health Alexandria, VA, United States Job Identification: 684958 Posting Date: 06/22/2026 Job Schedule: Full time Locations: Inova Mount Vernon Hospital Job Description Inova Mount Vernon Hospital is seeking a dedicated Behavioral Health Therapist 2 to join the team for a full-time day shift variable schedule with a rotating weekend. This role involves working within a 50‑bed behavioral health unit expanded in mid‑2023 to meet growing needs. The Behavioral Health Therapist 2 will assess and diagnose mental health and/or substance use disorders through a bio‑psycho‑social evidence‑based assessment. Integrate assessments considering cultural, clinical, ethnic, age, and other factors into the plan of care. Provide a range of therapeutic interventions, psycho‑educational programming, and behavioral interventions to assist the patient and family in achieving goals and objectives of the individualized service plan. Manage care to ensure patients and families receive appropriate healthcare and community resources to optimize outcomes. Responsibilities Provide therapeutic services and crisis intervention support. Coordinate care management and refer to community resources as needed. Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to develop and update individualized service plans. Minimum Qualifications Certification – Basic Life Support within 3 months; Crisis Prevention Institute in‑person training for non‑violent crisis intervention; receive CPI blue card within 6 months of hire. After 9/1/25, Vistelar replaces CPI for new and renewed de‑escalation certifications. Licensure – Licensed Mental Health Specialist upon start; options include Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Clinical Psychologist (LCP), or Licensed Substance Abuse Professional (LSATP). Experience – Two years in mental health/substance use disorder treatment, including psycho‑educational programming with evidence‑based interventions such as crisis intervention, trauma, and integrative therapies. Education – Master’s degree, Ph.D., PsyD, EdD in Mental Health, Social Work, Counseling, Substance Use Disorders, or behavioral health‑related field.
