Interim Director of Human ResourcesOur client is a mission driven organization headquartered in Washington, DC that operates in a fully remote environment. The team blends a professional, buttoned up approach with a relaxed and approachable culture, supported by an open door policy and regular employee feedback surveys. With a staff of roughly 60 employees across multiple states, the organization values people who can build trust quickly and operate independently.Our client is seeking an experienced Interim Director of Human Resources to own the HR function end to end. This person will serve as the internal subject matter expert on all things HR, partnering closely with executive leadership to shape strategy while keeping day to day operations running smoothly. The role oversees a team of two and touches everything from benefits and compliance to recruiting and performance management.Key Responsibilities:Own the design and execution of HR strategy, programs, and services across the organizationOversee administration and integrity of the HRIS platformServe as lead payroll administrator, overseeing the work of an outsourced payroll provider and confirming accuracy each cycleDirect the performance review process and partner with managers on goal setting that ties back to organizational prioritiesNegotiate and manage the employee benefits program, serve as primary liaison to carriers, and present recommendations to senior leadership and the BoardLead full cycle recruiting efforts and act as the main point of contact for outside staffing partnersBuild and refine onboarding and orientation programsAdvise leadership on compensation analysis, promotion criteria, job description design, and organizational change initiativesMonitor hiring, promotion, compensation, and disciplinary practices for compliance with federal, state, and local regulationsConsult with legal counsel on sensitive personnel matters to reduce riskDevelop and manage the annual HR departmental budgetSupervise, coach, and develop HR team members while fostering an engaged and inclusive team environmentMaintain required recordkeeping and reporting in line with legal requirementsQualifications:10 or more years of progressive HR experience, including prior supervisory responsibilityPrior experience at the Director level strongly preferredDemonstrated strength in benefits administration, employee relations, and complianceDirect experience navigating multi state employment law, including California, New York, and Puerto RicoWorking knowledge of HRIS platforms and payroll systems; experience with Paycom is a plusComfort with the structural side of employee experience, including compensation analysis and job architectureProficiency in Microsoft OfficeBachelor's degree, preferably in Human Resources or a related field, or equivalent experienceMaster's degree or SHRM certification is a nice to haveExcellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to adjust tone across audiencesProven ability to solve complex problems, set standards, and write policyPerks:Fully remote work environment with a collaborative, low ego leadership teamHigh visibility seat reporting directly to executive leadershipSupportive culture with an open door policy and frequent employee feedback loops
