The Maintenance Technician supports and maintains a state-of-the-art, high-precision CNC manufacturing operation. This role focuses on maximizing equipment reliability and uptime for CNC machining centers, turning centers, multi-axis machines, automated material handling systems, and facility support equipment. The technician acts as a technical leader for complex troubleshooting, preventive and predictive maintenance, equipment installations, and continuous improvement initiatives that uphold world-class manufacturing standards.

Responsibilities

• Perform advanced troubleshooting, repair, and preventive maintenance on 3-, 4-, and 5-axis CNC machining centers, CNC lathes, grinders, and other precision manufacturing equipment.
• Diagnose and repair electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, servo, spindle, lubrication, and coolant systems to ensure reliable machine performance.
• Troubleshoot CNC controls, PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, servo amplifiers, sensors, encoders, and industrial networks to quickly resolve complex equipment issues.
• Maintain and repair machine tool components including ball screws, linear guideways, automatic tool changers (ATCs), pallet changers, chip conveyors, coolant filtration systems, and hydraulic power units.
• Perform machine alignments, leveling, backlash verification, spindle analysis, ball bar analysis, and accuracy checks to maintain tight machining tolerances.
• Coordinate preventive and predictive maintenance activities to maximize machine availability and extend equipment life.
• Conduct root cause analysis on recurring failures and implement permanent corrective actions to improve long-term equipment reliability.
• Support machine installations, relocations, retrofits, and capital equipment projects from a maintenance and technical perspective.
• Assist Engineering and Manufacturing teams during process improvements, equipment upgrades, and new product launches to ensure equipment readiness.
• Maintain maintenance documentation, work orders, spare parts inventory, and equipment history using a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
• Collaborate closely with Quality and Production teams to minimize downtime while maintaining strict product quality requirements.
• Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures, electrical safety practices, and company safety standards at all times.

Essential Skills

• Proven experience as a maintenance technician in an industrial or CNC manufacturing environment.
• Strong electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic troubleshooting skills.
• Hands-on experience with preventive and predictive maintenance for CNC machining centers, lathes, grinders, and related equipment.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, and blueprints.
• Demonstrated proficiency in PLC troubleshooting and working with PLC control systems.
• Expertise in electrical troubleshooting and electrical maintenance in an industrial setting.
• Experience with industrial maintenance, including repair of complex machine components and support equipment.
• Proficiency in using hand tools and standard maintenance equipment safely and effectively.
• Knowledge of HVAC systems in an industrial environment.
• Ability to perform welding tasks as needed for maintenance and repair.
• Strong understanding of OSHA regulations, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), and electrical safety practices.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience working with multi-axis CNC machines and automated material handling systems.
• Familiarity with servo systems, spindle systems, lubrication systems, and coolant systems.
• Experience troubleshooting HMIs, VFDs, servo amplifiers, sensors, encoders, and industrial networks.
• Experience in maintaining machine tool components such as ball screws, linear guideways, ATCs, pallet changers, chip conveyors, coolant filtration systems, and hydraulic power units.
• Ability to perform advanced machine diagnostics including spindle analysis and ball bar analysis.
• Experience using a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to manage work orders, documentation, and spare parts inventory.
• Comfort working closely with Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, and Production teams in a collaborative environment.
• Continuous improvement mindset with the ability to identify and implement corrective actions for recurring equipment issues.

Work Environment

The role is based in a state-of-the-art, high-precision CNC manufacturing facility that operates advanced 3-, 4-, and 5-axis machining centers, CNC lathes, grinders, and automated material handling systems. You work with industrial electrical and mechanical systems, PLC controls, HMIs, VFDs, servo systems, hydraulic and pneumatic equipment, HVAC systems, and a variety of hand tools and maintenance equipment. The environment emphasizes adherence to OSHA regulations, Lockout/Tagout procedures, and electrical safety practices, with strong focus on equipment uptime and product quality. Work is performed on the shop floor and in maintenance areas, requiring regular interaction with Engineering, Quality, and Production teams in a structured, safety-conscious industrial setting.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Fond du Lac, WI.

The pay range for this position is $60000.00 - $80000.00/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
