Shape the Future of Thoracic Surgery in Northern California - San Francisco Bay Area, California Sutter West Bay Medical Group is seeking an accomplished Board-Certified Thoracic Surgeon to join our growing thoracic surgery program in the San Francisco Bay Area. This is a unique opportunity for an experienced thoracic surgeon with advanced expertise in robotic-assisted thoracic surgery (RATS) and video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) to help lead the continued growth and strategic development of a premier thoracic oncology program. The successful candidate will serve as a clinical leader, collaborating with multidisciplinary specialists to advance innovation, quality outcomes, and patient-centered care across our integrated healthcare system. We are seeking a surgeon who is passionate about delivering exceptional clinical care while helping define the future of minimally invasive thoracic surgery throughout Northern California. Opportunity Highlights Leadership role with responsibility for advancing minimally invasive and robotic thoracic surgery Established and growing thoracic oncology program Access to state-of-the-art robotic surgical technology and comprehensive support services Collaborative multidisciplinary care model with oncology, pulmonology, radiology, pathology, and primary care partners Opportunity to participate in research, teaching, mentorship, and program development Competitive compensation package with signing bonus, relocation assistance, and comprehensive benefits Practice within one of Northern California's leading integrated healthcare organizations Position Responsibilities Clinical Excellence Perform a broad spectrum of thoracic surgical procedures with a focus on: Utilize advanced minimally invasive techniques, including robotic-assisted thoracic surgery (RATS) and VATS Deliver evidence-based, patient-centered surgical care with an emphasis on clinical quality and outcomes Program Development & Leadership Help shape the vision and growth strategy for thoracic surgery services across the region Lead efforts to expand robotic thoracic surgery capabilities and access Partner with operational and physician leadership to drive service-line growth and innovation Multidisciplinary Thoracic Oncology Care Participate in multidisciplinary tumor boards and case conferences Collaborate closely with medical oncology, radiation oncology, pulmonology, radiology, pathology, and primary care physicians Support seamless care coordination throughout the patient journey Quality & Academic Engagement Advance quality improvement, patient safety, and clinical excellence initiatives Participate in peer review and performance improvement programs Contribute to academic activities, physician education, and clinical research opportunities Support the ongoing development of future physicians through mentorship and teaching Provide inpatient consultation and emergency thoracic surgery coverage as needed Completion of an accredited General Surgery residency Completion of an accredited Thoracic or Cardiothoracic Surgery fellowship Board Certified by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery Eligibility for an unrestricted California medical license DEA registration and hospital privileging eligibility Preferred Experience 5+ years of attending-level thoracic surgery experience Demonstrated expertise in robotic-assisted thoracic surgery (RATS) and VATS Proven success in building clinical programs and multidisciplinary partnerships Experience in thoracic oncology program development and leadership strongly preferred Practice Environment You'll join a highly collaborative, physician-led organization with access to: Interventional and pulmonary medicine specialists Critical care and perioperative support Integrated electronic medical records Multidisciplinary thoracic oncology conferences Strong administrative and operational infrastructure Signing bonus Relocation assistance Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision benefits Robust retirement program Teaching, mentorship, and research involvement About Sutter West Bay Medical Group Sutter West Bay Medical Group is a premier multispecialty physician organization with approximately 380 physicians serving communities throughout the San Francisco Bay Area.
