The Medical Receptionist 1 serves as the first point of contact for patients and visitors within a healthcare setting, ensuring a welcoming and efficient experience. This role is critical in managing patient flow by scheduling appointments, verifying patient information, and coordinating communication between patients and medical staff. The receptionist is responsible for maintaining accurate records, handling sensitive patient data with confidentiality, and facilitating smooth administrative operations. By effectively managing front desk activities, the Medical Receptionist 1 supports the overall functionality of the healthcare facility and contributes to high-quality patient care. This position requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
We are excited to announce that we are looking for a Full-Time, Medical Receptionist 1 at Shore Gastroenterology in Oakhurst, NJ and soon to be Eatontown, NJ. ADH is building a new office!
Responsibilities:
- Greet and check in patients upon arrival, verifying personal and insurance information accurately.
- Schedule, reschedule, and confirm patient appointments using electronic health record (EHR) systems.
- Answer incoming phone calls, respond to inquiries, and direct calls to appropriate medical personnel.
- Maintain patient records and ensure all documentation is complete, accurate, and compliant with privacy regulations.
- Collect co-payments and process billing information as required.
- Coordinate communication between patients, healthcare providers, and administrative staff to facilitate efficient patient care.
- Manage waiting room flow and notify medical staff of patient arrivals promptly.
- Perform general clerical duties such as filing, faxing, and handling correspondence.

The Medical Receptionist 1 utilizes strong communication skills daily to interact effectively with patients, families, and healthcare professionals, ensuring clear and compassionate exchanges. Organizational skills are essential for managing appointment schedules, patient records, and administrative tasks efficiently, preventing delays and errors. Proficiency with computer systems and EHR software enables the receptionist to accurately input and retrieve patient information, supporting clinical workflows. Attention to detail is critical when verifying insurance information, processing payments, and maintaining compliance with privacy regulations such as HIPAA. Additionally, problem-solving skills help the receptionist address patient concerns and unexpected scheduling conflicts, contributing to a positive patient experience and smooth office operations.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience in a medical office or healthcare environment preferred but not required.
- Basic computer skills, including familiarity with Microsoft Office and electronic health record (EHR) systems.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certification as a Medical Receptionist or Medical Administrative Assistant.
- Experience with specific EHR software such as Epic, Cerner, or Meditech.
- Knowledge of medical terminology and healthcare billing procedures.
- Bilingual abilities, especially in Spanish or other commonly spoken languages in the United States.
- Customer service experience in a healthcare or related setting.
