Manufacturing Technician

The Manufacturing Technician is responsible for producing high-quality composite parts and structures using filament winding equipment. This role involves working with glass, carbon, and other fibers, operating and maintaining production machinery, and following detailed process specifications and work instructions to ensure products meet all technical and quality requirements.

Responsibilities

• Develop a hands-on working knowledge of winding machines, resin mixing equipment, hoists, extractors, curing ovens, and all ancillary equipment required in the filament winding process.
• Produce composite products in accordance with standard procedures, process specifications, and written work instructions.
• Set up and tear down production machinery, validate the progress of machine operations, and make adjustments as necessary to maintain product quality and throughput.
• Feed raw materials or parts into semi-automated machines and monitor their operation throughout the production cycle.
• Gather parts, subassemblies, tools, and materials required to complete each production process efficiently.
• Position parts and subassemblies accurately by using templates or reading and interpreting measurements.
• Assemble parts to meet product specifications using hand tools and power tools.
• Perform accurate data entry related to production activities, including inputting information into Excel.
• Use measuring devices such as pi-tape, calipers, and air pressure gauges to verify dimensions and ensure products meet specifications.
• Operate power tools including hand saws, drill guns, and band saws safely and effectively.
• Follow all safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized work area within the production environment.
• Collaborate with team members and communicate effectively to support smooth production flow and continuous improvement.

Essential Skills

• High school diploma or GED.
• 2+ years of manufacturing experience preferred.
• Ability to effectively communicate in written and spoken English.
• Working knowledge of diverse high-speed machinery and measurement tools.
• Ability to accurately use measuring devices such as pi-tape, calipers, and air pressure gauges.
• Ability to operate power tools including hand saws, drill guns, and band saws.
• Demonstrated mechanical aptitude.
• Experience in assembly and production environments.
• Manufacturing background
• Ability to perform accurate data entry, including using Excel.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Technical degree or relevant technical training is a plus.
• Experience with Fanuc controls is a plus.
• Experience working with composite materials and filament winding processes is beneficial.
• Familiarity with hand tools and power tools in a manufacturing or production setting.
• Comfort working with resin mixing equipment, curing ovens, and related production machinery.

Work Environment

This role is based in a production and manufacturing environment at a facility that produces composite overwrapped pressure vessels (COPV) for advanced aerospace applications such as launch vehicles and spacecraft. You will work around filament winding machines, resin mixing equipment, hoists, extractors, curing ovens, and other high-speed machinery and measurement tools. The standard shift is Monday through Friday, 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., with approximately 50-hour work weeks and occasional Saturday work as needed. The environment is hands-on, fast-paced, and safety-focused, with regular use of hand tools, power tools, and measuring devices, as well as computer-based tasks such as entering production data into Excel.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $25.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
