Audience Services Representative Reports To: Audience Services Manager & House Manager Type of Position: Part-Time & On-site / Hours Based on Performance & Event Schedule General Description The Harris Theater for Music and Dance is a 1,500-seat performance venue located on the north edge of Millennium Park, in the heart of Downtown Chicago. Programming includes local, national, and international companies, curated in house, by local companies, or companies renting the space. A typical engagement lasts for 2‑3 performances or less. The Harris Theater season generally runs from September through May with lighter programming, June through August. The Audience Services Representative position is a part‑time role reporting to the onsite House Management and Audience Services Manager. This position is scheduled for performances and events and performs various duties as assigned per shift, which could include greeting and directing guests, resolving guest concerns, concessions support, accessibility assistance, ticket scanning, seating assistance, special event support, assisting guest accessibly and inclusively, and more. Primary responsibilities include providing excellent customer service by creating a welcoming atmosphere to all and communicating effectively with front of house team members and supervisors, while remaining engaged with the patron experience from guest arrival to departure. Duties and Responsibilities Participate in pre‑shift and post‑shift meetings and required training with scheduled team members. Collaborate with team members, assist with front‑of‑house preparation, greeting, ticket scanning, seating of patrons, coat check, and navigation of the space. Facilitate communication between Harris staff and internal and external volunteer groups. Provide customer service with a focus on accessibility for all patrons. Provide information on performance and event details, parking, and surrounding areas to patrons. Communicate cross‑departmentally via radio throughout the duration of the shift. Escalate incidents or emergency situations to House Manager on shift as needed and respond per emergency training. Lead a customer‑service first approach in the enforcement of front‑of‑house policies, including late seating, photography, and videography. Assist the corps of volunteers with performance duties as required. Handle money tracking and assist in patron transactions via POS System (Square) at merchandise stands. Expectations and Experience As a member of the Theater team, an Audience Service Representative is expected to: Uphold the Harris Theater’s mission to be a home for music and dance, and embody organizational core values of artistic integrity, collaboration, belonging, and respect. Maintain professional conduct and represent the Theater positively in all interactions with artists, renters, partner organizations, donors, vendors, volunteers, patrons. Complete required Harris Theater Training Sessions which include but are not limited to: Harris Theater Front of House + Customer Service, Access and Inclusion, and Emergency Preparedness and Evacuation Trainings. The ideal candidate will have: Experience or demonstrated interest in the arts, customer service or hospitality, front of house or arts administration. Effective communication, including strength in email communications, and organizational skills and a willingness to collaborate with colleagues. Share ideas, and communicate openly with peers and supervisor about questions, challenges, and successes. The ability to prioritize, manage multiple situations simultaneously, and maintain focus. A commitment to contributing to a collaborative environment during all shifts. Salary and Benefits This is an hourly position. Available hours are contingent upon programming. The bulk of the Harris Theater’s programming takes place September through June with minimal programming during the summer months. Compensation is $16.75 per hour.
