Associate or Full Professor - Law

Department: Dean, Law Salary: Commensurate with experience The University of Houston Law Center (Law Center) invites applications for a tenured Associate or Full Professor position in 1L criminal law and 1L legislation and regulation; various upper level including especially family law, evidence, PR, and employment/labor law to begin Fall 2027 term. The successful candidate may also be eligible for a chair or professorship depending on experience and qualifications. Applicants for the position must hold a J.D. degree (or the equivalent) and should demonstrate success as a scholar and teacher, along with a record of commitment to service indicating success as a future member of the community of the University of Houston Law Center (UHLC) and the University of Houston (UH) more broadly. Rank at the time of appointment will be made based on academic and scholarly record. This position requires teaching coverage in 1L doctrinal courses, upper-level required courses, or bar topic courses. Candidates from across all doctrinal areas of law will be considered, but we have the greatest need in traditional first-year subjects, most critically in (1) criminal law, and (2) legislation and regulation (a 1L course called Statutory Interpretation and Regulation). The most critical needs in upper-level courses are these: family law; labor and employment; PR; and evidence. Other upper-level topics of special interest are these: administrative law; bankruptcy; copyright; disability & the law; employment discrimination; energy law; health law; international law; and wills & trusts. Willingness to teach anywhere in the core UHLC curriculum, including other 1L courses or other courses covered on the bar exam, is also a positive factor.
