Residency requirement: Must live within 25 miles of Sunrise Wildlife Field Office. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background check. Must possess and maintain a valid minimum Class E State of Florida driver’s license. Occasional overnight travel is required. Minimum Qualifications: A high school diploma and 7 years professional experience in a closely related biological field or laboratory program. A Bachelor of Science degree in a relevant field can substitute for 4 of the 7 years of required experience. Preferred Qualifications: A Bachelor of Science degree in a relevant field. Willing and able to conduct wildlife surveys from aircraft. Strong familiarity with native and non-native vegetation in South Florida. Extensive experience with habitat restoration work, wildlife surveys, and prescribed burning. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Strong interpersonal skills for leadership, supervision, and partnership development. Land management skills to evaluate habitat conditions and prescribe appropriate treatments. Applied knowledge of wildlife population and habitat management techniques in Florida, including prescribed fire and mechanical and chemical vegetation control. GIS and related technological skills, with working knowledge of WHM programs (e.g., OBVM) and tracking databases (e.g., LMIS, SaMP). Administrative, organizational, and budget management skills for multiple projects and associated budgets. Personnel management skills to foster a productive working environment and promote teamwork. Ability to operate outside under inclement weather conditions and with specialized equipment (e.g., airboat, tracked vehicles). Responsibilities: Lead the Wildlife and Habitat Management Section’s District Biologist for the South Region’s South District. Supervise day-to-day operations on three Lead Wildlife Management Areas (WMAs) in Palm Beach, Broward, and Miami-Dade Counties. Assist with waterfowl hunting program management on Stormwater Treatment Areas. Administer projects; develop and manage budgets and annual work plans; provide leadership and mentorship. Participate in hydrologic restoration and habitat management activities, including prescribed fire. Develop and promote public use programs for hunting and non-hunting uses. Set management objectives consistent with agency directives; write reports and technical documents. Attend regional and divisional meetings, trainings, and provide assistance across the region as needed. Location
