Water Resources Engineer

We are seeking a Water Resources Engineer to support the planning, design, and delivery of projects involving flood risk management, drainage, water supply, surface water, and environmental resilience. This role will suit a technically capable professional who can work confidently across project stages, from initial investigations and feasibility studies through to detailed design, approvals, construction support, and completion. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, clients, regulators, contractors, and other stakeholders to develop practical, sustainable, and cost-effective solutions.


Key responsibilities will include preparing and reviewing hydrological and hydraulic assessments, drainage strategies, flood risk assessments, water management plans, and technical reports. You will undertake data analysis, catchment assessments, modelling, option appraisal, and design calculations, using relevant industry software and standards. The role may also involve developing drawings and specifications, contributing to environmental permitting and planning submissions, supporting site inspections, responding to technical queries, and monitoring project progress against agreed scope, budget, quality, and programme requirements. You will be expected to identify risks, communicate recommendations clearly, and maintain accurate project records.


Applicants should hold a degree or equivalent qualification in civil engineering, water resources engineering, environmental engineering, or a related discipline, with relevant professional experience in water, drainage, flood risk, or infrastructure projects. Experience with hydraulic and hydrological modelling packages, CAD or GIS applications, and applicable legislation, guidance, and design standards is highly desirable. Professional registration or progress toward it will be an advantage. We are looking for someone with strong analytical and problem-solving skills, excellent written and verbal communication, and the ability to manage competing priorities.
