Accountant

Accountant Responsible for basic to mid‑level accounting activities within Gates Corporate Accounting with a focus on its corporate entities. Located in the downtown Denver office, the role includes booking journal entries, reconciling accounts, assisting in closing ledgers, forecasting, and preparing management, statutory, and government reporting. Core Responsibilities Book journal entries and manage daily accounting activities for multiple entities. Reconcile general ledger accounts, including cash, prepaids, receivables, accruals, and other miscellaneous accounts. Prepare and enter actual results, create variance analysis, and distribute financial results on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis. Support monthly forecast and annual budget preparation, including variance analysis against budget and forecast. Process journal entries in compliance with Gates Mandate for Fundamental Financial Controls and existing SOX Matrixes. Submit completed work to Manager for review and approval. Resolve reconciling items within a reasonable timeframe and prepare data for the annual balance sheet review process. Participate in special projects such as property tax filings, unclaimed property, headcount reporting, intercompany charge‑outs, coding of invoices, and government reporting. Ensure compliance with Gates Mandate for Fundamental Financial Controls and SOX matrixes and support internal and external audit activities. Identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities for processes and procedures within Corporate Accounting. Maintain financial records, ensure proper ledger entries, and prepare balance sheets, profit and loss statements, and other financial reports. Analyze current costs, revenues, commitments, and obligations to predict future revenues and expenses. Apply business knowledge to solve problems and impact the quality of own work and the team’s output. Requirements and Preferred Skills BS in Accounting or Finance with 3+ years of experience in a large publicly owned corporation. Solid understanding of accounting principles; knowledge of GAAP is beneficial. Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy. Strong team player, proactive, able to support teammates, and build collaborative relationships. Demonstrated problem‑solving skills and understanding of appropriate escalation points. Works well under pressure, handles conflict effectively, and adapts to changing priorities. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Self‑motivated with a commitment to continuous process improvement. Knowledge of basic SOX controls and auditing processes. Understanding of Oracle (or similar) financial modules and Hyperion (or similar) software a plus. Proficient in Microsoft Excel. Legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship. Pay & Benefits Full‑time salary range: $70,000 – $90,000. Medical, dental, vision insurance and other voluntary benefits (benefits begin on the first day of the month after hire). Three weeks of paid vacation, eleven holidays (nine scheduled, two floating), and eight sick days (all vacation days accrued). 401(k) plan with 3% company contribution and an additional 3% company match.
