Polaris Tech Charter School is looking for a Certified Special Education Coordinator (Teacher) that can work well with elementary, middle and/or high schools in various models. The Special Education Teacher must ensure students have the academic, social-emotional support, transition, and behavioral services they need to achieve their highest potential within the project-based learning environment at Polaris Tech Charter School.
At Polaris Tech Charter School, the Coordinator:
Holds High Expectations for Equitable Outcomes : The Coordinator will create a rigorous but supportive environment in which all students are held to high academic expectations. The Navigator will seek evidence of achieving goals to help all students meet expectations. The Navigator will move beyond the traditional notion of providing each student with the same learning experience and be willing to apply differentiated instructional strategies.
Embraces Competency-Based Learning : The Navigator will recognize that not all students learn at the same pace and differentiate instruction to meet students' diverse needs.
Values All Learners : In seeking to personalize instruction, the Navigator will recognize all students bring different strengths and needs to the classroom. The Navigator is aware of different learning preferences, diversity, and universal design principles and appropriately differentiates and adapts to meet the academic, social, and emotional individual needs of each student.

Navigators use a growth mindset in and out of the classroom to take risks in developing engaging project-based learning opportunities for all learners. They also apply the same mindset to students by encouraging them to take risks and learn from their successes and failures.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Ensure appropriate assessment, creation, and delivery of both special education instruction and related services as stipulated on IEPs/504 plans
- Manages the MTSS process and works with other team members
- Ensure compliance by the school with all local and Federal laws and regulation related to students with IEPs/504 plans and students referred to special education
- Facilitate IEP meetings using a strengths-based and family-centered approach
- Identify students who should be assessed to determine disabled eligibility
- Oversee case management services for students and families requiring multiple resources.
Services to parents/families:
- Create and deliver quarterly IEP progress reports to parents/guardians
- Communicate to parents and guardians the special education process including process for referrals, evaluations, annual IEPs/504 plans, and re-evaluations
- Assist parents to access programs and community resources available to students with special needs

Work Environment: School, community, and office settings
Work Hours: This is a full-time, 40 hours per week, 205 Day position.
Travel: Some travel to other schools, various homes, and community settings, professional development, workshops
Requirements
- Certification in the subject area (South Carolina or reciprocity state) is required
- Power School experience
- Experience in project-based learning is preferred
- Experience with i Ready is preferred
- Willingness to work with other navigators to promote interdisciplinary studies
- Ability to learn new technology tools quickly (e.g., database and web-based tools)
- Ability to support and guide parents as well as students
- Knowledge of effective and innovative instructional and student evaluation techniques
- Ability to develop effective relationships with pupils, parents, navigators, staff and the community
- Outstanding references from current and former supervisors
- Satisfactory SLED (SC Law Enforcement Division) report
