We specialize in servicing compactors, balers, trash chutes, linen chutes, dock equipment, and hydraulic waste handling systems for commercial, industrial, healthcare, government, and multifamily facilities.

We're looking for a mechanically skilled Field Service Technician who enjoys diagnosing problems, working independently, and providing outstanding customer service. If you have experience with industrial equipment, hydraulics, electrical troubleshooting, or mechanical repairs, we'd like to talk with you.

Position Summary

As a Field Service Technician, you will inspect, troubleshoot, repair, install, and perform preventive maintenance on waste and recycling equipment throughout the DMV region. You will represent Big Stuff professionally while delivering exceptional customer service and ensuring equipment is operating safely and efficiently.

Primary Responsibilities

• Diagnose and repair hydraulic, electrical, mechanical, and structural issues on compactors, balers, trash chutes, dock equipment, and related systems.
• Perform preventive maintenance inspections and recommend repairs to maximize equipment reliability.
• Troubleshoot electrical control systems, motors, relays, limit switches, photo-eye sensors, solenoids, and hydraulic components.
• Read and interpret electrical schematics, hydraulic diagrams, and technical manuals.
• Perform welding, fabrication, and mechanical repairs as required.
• Assemble hydraulic power units and equipment components in the shop when assigned.
• Inspect, clean, lubricate, adjust, and test equipment to ensure safe operation.
• Utilize diagnostic tools and testing equipment to accurately identify equipment failures.
• Complete electronic work orders, service reports, inspection documentation, and parts usage accurately and in real time.
• Document equipment condition with photographs before and after repairs.
• Communicate findings and repair recommendations clearly with customers and internal team members.Preferred Technical Experience
• Clear communication with customers, colleagues about the issues identified and the steps taken for repairs

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record
• Previous experience repairing industrial equipment, waste handling equipment, heavy equipment, or similar mechanical systems preferred
• Mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical troubleshooting skills
• Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, wiring diagrams, and schematics
• PLC troubleshooting experience is a plus
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities
• Strong communication and customer service skills
• Ability to work independently while collaborating with a team
• Professional appearance and demeanor when representing Big Stuff
• Commitment to safety, integrity, and quality workmanship

Physical Requirements

• Frequently lift and carry up to 75 pounds
• Work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions
• Safely operate company vehicles and equipment
