The CMA performs routine administrative and patient care supportive duties in a Health System medical practice, they assist medical and/or nursing staff in the examination and treatment of patients and ensure the clinic/office runs smoothly./ph3Clinical Duties May Include But Are Not Limited To The Following:/h3ulliAssist medical and nursing staff in a variety of tasks including:/liliTaking medical histories and recording vital signs/liliExplaining treatment procedures to patients/liliPreparing patients for examinations and procedures/liliAssisting the physician during the examination and procedures/liliCollect and prepare laboratory specimens/liliPerform basic laboratory tests on the premises/liliDispose of contaminated supplies Sterilize medical instruments./liliPromote patient/family understanding of the educational content and his/her involvement in the plan of care, and document in patient record./liliPrepare and administer medications as directed by a physician/liliAuthorize drug refills as directed Telephone prescriptions to a pharmacy./liliDraw blood/liliPrepare patients for x-rays, tests and procedures./liliTake electrocardiograms Remove sutures/ staples./liliChange sterile and non-sterile dressings./li/ulh3Administrative Duties May Include But Are Not Limited To The Following:/h3ulliAnswer telephones/liliGreet patients/liliUpdate and file patient medical records/liliFill out insurance forms/liliHandle correspondence/liliSchedule appointments/liliArrange for hospital admissions/liliArrange for laboratory services/liliHandle billing and bookkeeping./liliPerform other administrative duties as directed./li/ulpKeyword Search: Minimum Qualifications Education:/pulliLevel I -- Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program is strongly preferred. High school or GED graduation is required./liliLevel II -- Graduation from a medical assistant program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) is strongly preferred.
