Mental Health Specialist II - Per Diem

Overview Rutgers University Behavioral Health Care (UBHC) provides evidence‑based behavioral health and addiction services for children, adolescents, adults and seniors throughout New Jersey. UBHC’s 1,060 experienced professionals deliver inpatient, outpatient, partial hospitalization, crisis stabilization and community outreach services at 15 sites statewide. The Acute Psychiatric Services (APS) team in Piscataway offers crisis stabilization, screening and support for consumers with acute psychiatric needs. Responsibilities Takes primary responsibility for answering telephone calls from consumers. Documents all telephone calls in the APS telephone log or Electronic Medical Record (EMR). Maintains confidentiality of information in accordance with Rutgers UBHC policy, University policy, Joint Commission standards and the Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS) requirements. Refs consumer calls to a clinician as directed by the Program Coordinator. Conducts initial triage of consumers and families when they arrive onsite five (5) minutes after arrival and provides immediate report to the Program Coordinator. Qualifications Minimum Education and Experience Bachelor's Degree in a mental health‑related field or four (4) years of full‑time experience in a mental health field. Equivalent education, experience and/or training may be substituted for the degree requirement. Certifications/Licenses Valid driver’s license. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Must possess adequate written and verbal skills to perform the job duties. Ability to document in an Electronic Medical Record and in Microsoft Word. Ability to work weekends, holidays and off hours. Preferred Qualifications Ability to enter information into a database and to use the Rutgers UBHC registration software to enter needed information with accuracy is preferred. Compensation Hourly rate: $25.30 per hour. Position is non‑exempt and per diem with 19 standard hours per week.
