Basic Job Functions:We are seeking a curious, forward-thinking welding professional to join our Innovation team. This role will provide welding expertise to support the development of new products, manufacturing processes, and technologies across NTS. This person will work closely with engineers and cross-functional teams to improve product design and manufacturability, research and evaluate new welding technologies, and develop practical solutions that improve safety, quality, productivity, and cost. The role will support projects from early research and testing through the R&D stage-gate process and eventual implementation by production teams.Partner with structural engineers to improve welded designs and manufacturabilityResearch and evaluate new welding processes, technologies, and automation Develop and execute R&D projects from concept through testing, validation, and implementationApply welding expertise to investigate technical challenges and develop practical solutionsEvaluate opportunities to improve safety, quality, productivity, and cost through welding innovationDocument research, test results, technical findings, and recommendationsDevelop a strong understanding of existing NTS welding processes, products, and manufacturing capabilitiesAbility to travel for training, visiting vendors, and to other Nucor facilities Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.Minimum Qualifications:Degree or technical education in welding, welding technology, engineering, manufacturing, or a related field; equivalent relevant experience will also be consideredExperience with common welding processes, materials, fabrication, and manufacturing practicesAbility to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical documentationStrong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skillsDemonstrated initiative, curiosity, and ability to learn new technologies and processes Preferred Qualifications:AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI), or ability to obtain Experience with AWS D1.1 or other applicable welding codes and standardsExperience with WPS/PQR development or welding procedure qualificationExperience with automated or robotic welding systems • Experience with structural steel or heavy fabricationExperience with welding process development, testing, experimentation, or R&D • Knowledge of welding metallurgy, weldability, distortion, fatigue, or failure analysisExperience applying data analysis, DOE, or other structured problem-solving methods Nucor is an Equal Opportunity Employer and a drug-free workplace
