Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced and highly organized Fuel Manager to oversee the safe, efficient, and continuous management of fuel operations in the King Salmon / North Naknek area. This position will be responsible for coordinating barge fuel deliveries, trucking and transportation operations, fuel inventory management, fuel quality monitoring, and daily operational reporting.

The Fuel Manager will serve as the primary point of contact for fuel suppliers, barge operators, trucking, drivers, and internal operations personnel. The ideal candidate will have strong logistical and organizational skills, attention to detail, and experience managing bulk fuel operations in a remote and demanding environment.

Key Responsibilities

Barge Fuel Delivery

● Coordinate and manage scheduled fuel deliveries by barge to the King Salmon / North Naknek area.

● Communicate with fuel suppliers, barge operators, terminal personnel, and project management to ensure timely deliveries.

● Coordinate receiving operations, including delivery schedules, tank capacity, transfer requirements, weather conditions, and personnel.

● Monitor fuel transfers from barge to storage facilities and verify delivered quantities.

● Review bills of lading, delivery tickets, meter readings, and other required documentation.

● Ensure all barge fuel deliveries are conducted safely and in accordance with applicable regulations and company procedures.

● Maintain accurate records of all barge deliveries and received fuel volumes.

Trucking & Transportation Management

● Coordinate fuel transportation by tanker truck from suppliers, terminals, and storage facilities.

● Schedule trucks and manage daily delivery requirements based on inventory levels and operational needs.

● Monitor transportation schedules and resolve delays or logistical issues.

● Verify delivery quantities and documentation.

● Maintain accurate records of trucking activity, fuel deliveries, and transportation costs.

Fuel Inventory Management

● Maintain accurate, real-time inventory of all fuel products.

● Manage multiple fuel types, including diesel, gasoline, aviation fuel, heating fuel, and other petroleum products as required.

● Continuously monitor tank levels, consumption rates, available capacity, and projected fuel requirements.

● Maintain appropriate inventory levels to prevent shortages while avoiding unnecessary overstocking.

● Track daily receipts, transfers, consumption, and remaining inventory.

● Reconcile physical tank measurements against delivery records and inventory management systems.

● Identify discrepancies and investigate inventory variances.

● Prepare regular inventory and fuel usage reports for management.

Safety & Compliance

● Ensure fuel receiving, storage, transfer, and dispensing operations are conducted safely.

● Maintain compliance with applicable federal, state, local, environmental, and industry requirements.

● Follow company fuel handling, spill prevention, emergency response, and safety procedures.

● Maintain required fuel records, inspection documentation, and delivery documentation.

● Coordinate spill response and notification procedures when necessary.

● Promote a strong safety culture among fuel handling and transportation personnel.

Administrative & Operational Duties

● Maintain accurate daily fuel logs and inventory reports.

● Prepare fuel usage, delivery, and inventory forecasts.

● Maintain records of supplier deliveries, trucking activity, fuel consumption, and tank levels.

● Coordinate with project management, accounting, procurement, and field operations.

● Assist with fuel purchasing and forecasting based on projected operational requirements.

● Develop and maintain fuel delivery schedules.

● Participate in operational meetings and provide fuel status updates.

● Maintain organized electronic and hard-copy fuel records.

Qualifications

● 3+ years of experience in fuel management, bulk fuel operations, logistics, transportation, or a related field preferred.

● Experience managing multiple fuel products and bulk storage systems.

● Experience coordinating tanker truck deliveries and/or marine/barge fuel deliveries strongly preferred.

● Knowledge of fuel storage, transfer, dispensing, and inventory control practices.

● Strong understanding of fuel safety and spill prevention procedures.

● Ability to accurately track large-volume fuel inventories.

● Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.

● Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and other inventory or operational management software.

● Ability to work independently and make sound operational decisions.

● Ability to work flexible hours and respond to fuel delivery or operational requirements outside of normal business hours when necessary.

● Valid driver’s license required.

Preferred Qualifications

● Experience working with bulk fuel terminals or remote fuel storage facilities .

● Experience with marine fuel deliveries and barge operations.

● Experience managing fuel tanker trucking operations.

● Experience with fuel inventory reconciliation and forecasting.

● Familiarity with environmental and regulatory requirements for petroleum storage and handling.

● Experience managing fuel operations supporting construction, industrial, aviation, military, fishing, or remote-site operations.

● Fuel handling, HAZMAT, OSHA, environmental, or related certifications are a plus.

● Familiarity with remote Alaska logistics and seasonal transportation challenges is preferred.

Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate will be a hands-on, detail-oriented fuel professional who can manage multiple deliveries and fuel types while maintaining accurate inventory information at all times. This individual must be comfortable coordinating barge and trucking logistics, monitoring fuel levels and consumption, resolving delivery issues, and communicating effectively with both field personnel and management.

The Fuel Manager must understand that maintaining an adequate and accurate fuel supply is critical to continuous operations and must proactively identify potential shortages, delivery issues, equipment problems, and inventory discrepancies before they impact operations.

Work Environment

This position is based in King Salmon / North Naknek, Alaska , and requires working around bulk fuel storage tanks, tanker trucks, barges, fuel transfer equipment, and other industrial equipment. The position involves outdoor work, variable weather conditions, extended hours, seasonal transportation challenges, and responding to operational requirements outside of standard working hours.
