Instructor, Business Administration (Human Resource Management) - Adjunct

Job Description Teaching faculty at Guilford Technical Community College are responsible for supporting student success by creating an optimum learning environment, responding to student needs, managing instructional activities, modeling employability skills, demonstrating professionalism, developing cooperative work relationships with other faculty and staff, and supporting college administrative requirements. The instructor will provide quality instruction and participate actively in the affairs of the college. Duties & Functions Teaching Prepare and teach departmental courses such as People Skills, Human Resource Management, Employment Law and Regulations, Training and Development, Recruitment and Personnel Planning, and Compensation and Benefits. Develop learner‑centered lesson plans and employ teaching strategies that address diverse learning styles. Incorporate current technology in classroom, distance‑learning, and laboratory settings. Model a quality learning environment that supports a diverse student population. Prepare, distribute, and use instructional support materials, including syllabi, supplementary materials, and instructional media. Conduct assessment of student learning outcomes in courses and, where appropriate, general education programs. Professional Development Participate in activities to maintain currency in the field, including maintaining current credentials or licenses required by program or accreditation. Engage in opportunities to advance teaching skills and strategies. Administration Provide daily oversight of classroom and laboratory spaces and maintain equipment and instructional materials. Maintain student records (grades, attendance) using technology‑based programs such as Colleague, WebAdvisor, and Moodle. Comply with all applicable college, state, and federal rules and regulations. Student Support Address student concerns promptly. Promote retention and persistence by helping students develop success strategies. Refer students to campus and community resources when appropriate. Demonstrate and model the college’s employability skills: adaptability, communication, information processing, problem‑solving, responsibility, and teamwork. Education Required Master’s Degree in Business Administration, Human Resource Management, or Organizational Development from a regionally accredited institution, or a related master’s degree with at least 18 graduate hours in Human Resource Management or Organizational Development. Education Preferred Doctoral degree in Business Administration or a related field from a regionally accredited post‑secondary institution and current SHRM‑CP, SHRM‑SCP, PHR, SPHR, GPHR, PHRi, or SPHRi certification. Experience Required Three years of recent professional experience in a human‑resources role (recruitment, employee relations, compensation and benefits, training and development). Post‑secondary teaching and/or professional training experience in any of the following formats: teaching courses, training sessions, professional development workshops, or continuing‑education seminars. Experience Preferred Community college teaching experience. Experience with assessment of student learning outcomes. Experience with distance learning and/or alternate instructional delivery systems. Ethics and Social Responsibility training within 30 days of hire, with annual refresher. eLearning Level One before the first day of the first semester teaching. eLearning Levels Two and Three for instructors who teach online or hybrid delivery methods before the first day of the first semester teaching. Physical Demands Possible teaching during day, evening, and/or weekend hours. Hear and see. Stand for extended periods of time (up to 4 hours).
