Posting Details Position Information Job Title Instructor, Phlebotomy Training Program, Occupational Extension -Adjunct Full Time/Part Time Part-time Job Description Teaching faculty at Guilford Technical Community College are responsible for supporting student success by creating an optimum learning environment, responding to student needs, managing effective instructional activities, modeling employability skills, demonstrating professionalism, developing cooperative workrelationships with other faculty and staff, supporting college administrative requirements, and maintaining competency in their instructional field. He/she will be responsible for quality instruction and for effective participation and interest in the total affairs of the college. Under supervision of the Director of Health Careers, this individual will prepare and teach Phlebotomy Training Program courses. The individual will also be responsible for collaborating with community healthcare partners to provide necessary training and education experiences consist with federal, state, and local guidelines and regulations. The adjunct faculty member must be able to instruct a wide variety of phlebotomy subjects matters and able to supervise skill practice in the lab and clinical setting. Duties/Functions Teaching Prepare & teach departmental courses to include: developing learner centered lesson plans employing teaching strategies & instructional materials fordifferent learning styles incorporating, as pedagogically appropriate, current technologyin classroom, and laboratory environments creating and modeling a quality learning environment thatsupports a diverse student population preparing, distributing and utilizing instructional supportmaterials, including course syllabi, supplementary materials,instructional media and other devices as appropriate conducting appropriate assessment of student learning outcomes incourses and programs/general education as appropriate Professional Development Maintain a professional status that supports the instructional mission by: participating in professional development activities to maintaincurrency in field; maintaining current credentials or licensures as required by program or accreditation participating in professional development opportunities to advance teaching skills and strategies Administration Provide daily & ongoing oversight of facilities, equipment and student records to include: maintaining classroom and laboratory spaces including upkeep ofassigned equipment providing for the security of facilities, equipment and instructional materials and maintaining safe working conditionsmaintaining student records (e.g., grades and attendance) inaccordance with established deadlines using a variety oftechnology-based programs (e.g., Colleague, WebAdvisor,Moodle) complying with all applicable college, state and federal rulesand regulations Student Support Provide an environment conducive to student success toinclude: promoting retention/persistence by assisting students to developstrategies for success referring students to campus and community resources whenappropriate conducting recruiting activities Demonstrate and model the College’s employability skills:adaptability, communication, information processing, problemsolving, responsibility and teamwork. Additional Duties and Responsibilities Maintain student records. Perform all duties as assigned by supervisor. Difficult Challenges Contacts Education Required Associate degree in a health related field from a regionallyaccredited post-secondary institution. Current Phlebotomy Certification from an organization whosecredentialing exam is accredited by the National Commission forCertifying Agencies ( NCCA ) or the American National StandardsInstitute ( ANSI ) Education Preferred Bachelor’s degree in a health related field from a regionallyaccredited post-secondary institution. Experience Required Three years of relevant industry experience with administrativeand clinical procedures routinely performed by phlebotomists Post-secondary teaching and/or industry training experience inMedical Assisting topics using any of the following formats:teaching courses, training sessions, conducting professionaldevelopment workshops, and/or other continuing educationseminars. Experience Preferred Greater than three years of relevant industry experience with administrative and clinical procedures routinely performed byphlebotomists Experience with assessment of student learning outcomes Experience in a community college setting Experience with distance learning and/or alternate instructionaldelivery systems KSA Required The Instructor shall possess an understanding of and commitment to the nature and role of the Community College, particularly its“open door” policy. He/she shall have demonstrated personal andprofessional competence for the responsibilities assigned.
