Instructor, Cooking - Adjunct Teaching faculty at Guilford Technical Community College (GTCC) are responsible for supporting student success by creating an optimum learning environment, responding to student needs, managing effective instructional activities, modeling employability skills, demonstrating professionalism, developing cooperative work relationships with other faculty and staff, supporting college administrative requirements, and maintaining competency in their instructional field. They will be responsible for quality instruction and for effective participation and interest in the total affairs of the college. Responsibilities Under general supervision, this individual will provide quality instruction to prepare and teach students the necessary skills in basic cooking. Teaching Develop learner-centered lesson plans Employ teaching strategies and instructional materials for different learning styles Incorporate current technology in classroom, distance learning, and laboratory environments as pedagogically appropriate Create and model a quality learning environment that supports a diverse student population Prepare, distribute, and utilize instructional support materials, including course syllabi, supplementary materials, instructional media, and other devices as appropriate Conduct appropriate assessment of student learning outcomes in courses and programs/general education as appropriate Professional Development Participate in professional development activities to maintain currency in field; maintain current credentials or licensures as required by program or accreditation Participate in professional development opportunities to advance teaching skills and strategies Administration Maintain classroom and laboratory spaces, including upkeep of assigned equipment Provide security of facilities, equipment and instructional materials and maintain safe working conditions Maintain student records (e.g., grades and attendance) in accordance with established deadlines using technology-based programs (e.g., Colleague, WebAdvisor, Moodle) Comply with all applicable college, state and federal rules and regulations Student Support Address student concerns in a timely manner Promote retention/persistence by assisting students to develop strategies for success Refer students to campus and community resources when appropriate Demonstrate and model the College’s employability skills: adaptability, communication, information processing, problem-solving, responsibility and teamwork Additional Duties and Responsibilities Perform all duties as assigned by supervisor Education Required High School Diploma or GED graduate Education Preferred Associate Degree or higher from a regionally accredited post-secondary institution Certification from the American Culinary Federation Experience Required Two years’ experience in food preparation within the culinary/food service industry Teaching and/or industry training in any of the following formats: teaching courses, training sessions, conducting professional development workshops, and/or other continuing education seminars Experience Preferred Greater than two years’ experience in food preparation within the culinary/food service industry KSA Required Excellent organization skills Good communication and people skills A high level of attention to detail and creative mindset Knowledgeable of the culinary & hospitality industry KSA Preferred None Instructor Attributes Multi-task Respect Diversity Adapt to changing procedures, protocols or assignments Create and maintain a learner-centered environment Communicate effectively Ability to effectively implement and apply technology solutions Mandatory GTCC Trainings Reporting Requirements Discrimination & Anti-Harassment (within 30 days of hire; annual refresher thereafter) Shooter on Campus (within 30 days of hire; annual refresher thereafter) Personal Information Protection (within 30 days of hire; annual refresher thereafter) Ethics and Social Responsibility (within 30 days of hire; annual refresher thereafter) Linking Student Learning Outcomes (within 30 days of hire) Moodle Certification (if teaching online or hybrid – within 30 days of hire) Physical Demands May include teaching day and evening and/or weekend hours Classroom setting Various GTCC campuses Other Criminal history checks, with acceptable results, are required #J-18808-Ljbffr The Chronicle Of Higher Education, Inc.
