Business Development Manager

Shames Construction has been building commercial projects since 1987, and as a 100% woman-owned general contractor, we specialize in retail, grocery, industrial, restaurant, and entertainment construction across the Western United States. We collaborate with leading retail brands and are proud of the high standards we uphold in every project. We are seeking a motivated, organized, and relationship-driven Business Development Manager to lead and expand our business development efforts throughout Nashville, the Southeast region, and key markets across the United States. This role plays a critical part in identifying new opportunities, building relationships with retail clients and industry partners, and supporting strategic growth initiatives within the commercial construction industry. WHAT YOU’LL DO Research and identify prospective retail clients, developers, property managers, brokers, architects, and industry partners throughout Tennessee and targeted markets nationwide Develop and maintain relationships with retail brands, franchise groups, developers, commercial real estate professionals, and strategic partners Build, maintain, and update business development databases, prospect lists, and CRM systems Conduct outbound outreach through email, phone calls, networking events, and industry associations Generate and qualify leads while creating opportunities for company leadership and estimating teams Prepare, assemble, and distribute marketing packets, qualification packages, proposals, and company information Track outreach activities, leads, opportunities, and client interactions within database systems Coordinate follow-up communications and schedule introductory meetings for company leadership Monitor retail development trends, construction opportunities, bid platforms, and market activity across Nashville, the Southeast, and other strategic U.S. markets Represent Shames Construction at networking events, conferences, trade shows, and client meetings Support marketing initiatives, company communications, and brand awareness efforts Collaborate with leadership to identify and pursue strategic growth opportunities with national and regional retail clients Maintain accurate records and provide regular reports on business development activities and results WHAT YOU BRING Required Qualifications 3–7+ years of experience in business development, sales, client development, account management, marketing, or related roles Experience working within retail construction, retail development, commercial real estate, or related industries Strong understanding of the Nashville market, including retail development trends, commercial real estate activity, developers, brokers, and industry networks Experience supporting business development efforts across multiple geographic regions or national territories within the United States Proven ability to develop and maintain relationships with clients, developers, brokers, architects, retailers, and industry partners Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines Excellent written and verbal communication skills Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) Experience with CRM systems, LinkedIn Sales Navigator, and lead generation platforms Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment Strong research, networking, and relationship-building skillsHigh attention to detail and accuracy Professional communication skills when interacting with executives, clients, and industry professionals High School Diploma required Preferred Qualifications Prior experience supporting a commercial general contractor, retail contractor, developer, or commercial real estate organization Existing relationships within the Nashville commercial real estate and retail development community Experience working with national retail brands, franchise organizations, grocery retailers, restaurant groups, or multi-site development programs Associate's or bachelor’s degree in business, Marketing, Communications, Construction Management, Real Estate, or a related field COMPENSATION & BENEFITS Salary: $90,000 – $100,000 per year DOE Benefits: Medical, dental, vision, life insurance, FSA, 401(k), PTO, and 7 paid holidays Shames Construction Company is an equal opportunity employer.
