Summary Objective Police Officer – protect life and property in the City of Goldsboro. Perform law‑enforcement duties, provide public safety and community outreach, and uphold city and state regulations. Hiring Range Negotiable between $51,379 and $66,280, depending on qualifications and experience. Core Responsibilities Perform general duty law‑enforcement work, including the following: Patrol the City on foot or by police vehicle; check residential doors and windows; investigate unusual conditions; maintain surveillance on stolen vehicles, missing persons, or suspects. Respond to calls for assistance, complaints, suspicious activity, domestic disputes, and disruptive behavior; determine the true nature of situations and take appropriate legal action. Serve and execute search warrants and arrest warrants; maintain warrant records in the DCI system. Investigate traffic accidents, issue citations, direct traffic, and participate in emergency operations or traffic checkpoints. Collect physical evidence, interview witnesses, conduct investigations, make arrests, present findings in court, and process criminal suspects. Operate two‑way radios, maintain equipment, and keep vehicle and weapons in working order. Prepare activity reports and advise the public on laws and ordinances. Assist stranded motorists, provide directions, and attend required training sessions. Perform related duties as directed by the department. Qualifications Applicants must meet the following minimum qualifications: Completion of B.L.E.T. certification or enrollment in a B.L.E.T. program. Valid North Carolina driver’s license. Physical fitness sufficient to perform strenuous duties, including climbing, lifting >74 pounds, and working in hazardous environments. Knowledge of state and federal laws, local ordinances, and police procedures. Proficiency in firearms and self‑defense tactics. Effective oral and written communication skills, including court testimony. Ability to make sound judgments in routine and emergency situations.
