The Inserter Operator I is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining equipment used to fold, match, and insert multiple pieces of printed material into envelopes. Duties and responsibilities include setting up inserting equipment at the beginning of each job according to the specifications provided on the job ticket, inserting address tags into mail sacks, or mail trays used for bulk mailing of ID cards, kits, and catalogs, maintaining equipment, troubleshooting problems, and performing preventative maintenance on equipment as needed, keeping work area in order and following prescribed safety regulations, reading postal statements and sorting mail accordingly, making adjustments as required to return output to the proper specifications, directing and supervising the work of helpers on the machine, detecting and reporting defective materials or questionable conditions to the department manager, communicating status of jobs to department manager, following standard operating procedures according to the department's guidelines, and performing other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and requirements include two years of experience in printing or mail inserting environment preferred (operating either Pitney Bowes, Kern or Bell and Howell Inserters is a plus), high school graduate, or completion of GED preferred, performing all work and activities with honesty and integrity, taking personal responsibility for productivity, quality and timeliness of work, effectively communicating (and listening) clearly, professionally, politely and persuasively in all situations; responding well and in a reasonable, timely manner, challenging conventional practices and using creativity and information to lead, innovate, problem solve, and implement ideas to contribute to the growth of the organization, supporting and meeting company/department goals and core values, collaborating with co-workers to achieve common goals.

Working conditions must be able to perform the essential job duties. Work may be performed in an office, warehouse and/or manufacturing environment. Requires the ability to perform the following activities for the majority of the day: stand for extended periods of time, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, or climb. In addition, requires the ability to lift and/or push up to 50 pounds. May be exposed to noise and be required to wear hearing protection for the duration of the shift.
