The Spear Group Full-Time Opportunity with Corporate Benefits Project Controls Specialist / Cost Analyst - Pharma Facility Capital Projects Portfolios Location: Princeton, NJ Area Position Summary The Spear Group has an exciting career opportunity for capital projects Project Controls Specialist / Cost Analyst (finance, accounting, business professional) to join The Spear Group team supporting capital project portfolio Project Controls activities for our big pharma manufacturing client at their NJ location in the Princeton / Lawrenceville, NJ area. This position will deal with above projects activities and could include cost analysis activities for active projects as well. The Project Controls Specialist / Cost Analyst supports project financial oversight by assisting with fixed asset management, capital project tracking and cost analysis, and operating expense analysis. This role works closely with project managers, accounting, and finance teams to ensure accurate cost control, asset setup, capitalization, depreciation tracking, and reporting for capital projects and portfolios. Utilization of SAP and heavy Excel. The Project Controls Specialist / Cost Analyst helps maintain the integrity of the fixed asset system, monitors capital expenditures, reviews operating expense discrepancies, and ensures proper financial treatment of assets throughout their lifecycle. Key Responsibilities Fixed Asset & Capital Project Support – Above Project Activities Set up new assets within the fixed asset accounting system based on completed project activities. Maintain accurate asset records. Ensure timely capitalization of completed assets. Depreciation & Asset Lifecycle Management Track and monitor asset depreciation. Review and analyze depreciation postings for accuracy. Process asset retirements and disposals. Record loss on asset retirement when assets are removed from service before full depreciation. Ensure proper accounting treatment for partially depreciated assets taken out of service. Asset Tracking & Processing Monitor asset movement, transfers, and status updates. Maintain supporting documentation for asset additions, transfers, and retirements. Financial Analysis & Reporting Review monthly operating expense reports to identify discrepancies related to capital vs. expense classification. Investigate variances and collaborate with accounting or project teams to resolve issues. Assist with capital expenditure tracking. Support monthly, quarterly, and year-end close activities related to fixed assets. Compliance & Process Support Ensure compliance with company capitalization policies and accounting standards. Assist in preparing documentation for internal and external audits. Support process improvements for asset tracking, reporting, and financial controls. Required Experience and Education Bachelor’s degree in one of the following: Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Business Analytics, Economics or related field 2-10 years of relevant experience in project finance, accounting, project controls, or asset management. Internship experience in accounting, finance, or project support is preferred. Basic understanding of fixed asset accounting and depreciation principles Familiarity with capital project accounting and Construction in Progress (CIP) a plus Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills Attention to detail and accuracy in financial data management Proficiency in Microsoft Excel Experience with ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, or similar) Strong communication and organizational skills Fixed asset modules within ERP systems experience is a plus Financial reporting and variance analysis Capital expenditure tracking experience is a plus Analytical thinking Financial accuracy and compliance Process orientation Collaboration with cross‑functional teams Data management and reporting Compensation based on relevant experience EQUAL OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYER The Spear Group, Inc. is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
