Job Summary Athletic Trainer, Fellow – Football – Athletic Medicine – Full Time (8‑hour rotating shifts), Exempt, Non‑Union, Fixed‑Term. Location: Los Angeles, CA – University Park Campus. Essential Duties Identify and coordinate student athletes’ pre‑participation physical examinations by taking thorough histories of illnesses and injuries, and assessing range of motion, muscle strength and neurological function. Perform special tests for joint stability, posture, and other specific pathologies; emphasize preventative measures including bracing, padding or taping. Treat and evaluate injuries at practices and games, administer first aid when needed, working with physicians or emergency personnel. Educate, instruct, and supervise athletes in the use of rehab equipment and exercises, providing daily counsel and treatment for injuries. Evaluate athletes’ physical condition, response, and progress, and discuss findings with appropriate physicians and the Director of Athletic Medicine Operations. Inform coaches of the status of student athletes’ conditions, provide referrals to auxiliary medical personnel, and coordinate treatment plans for injured student athletes. Monitor team practices, athletic equipment, sporting grounds, and environmental conditions at home and away competitions to ensure safe training and playing conditions. Assist in coordinating and scheduling medical coverage for all team practices and competitions at the university or elsewhere, and act as liaison to visiting teams’ athletic trainers to ensure access to team physicians and other necessary services. Maintain medical records and forms for treatments given, complete injury or accident reports, and observe and assist with the fitting of athletic or rehabilitative equipment. Assist coaches in designing specific and/or individual conditioning, therapeutic and rehabilitative programs for injured student athletes. Coordinate and schedule pre‑participation physical examinations, and facilitate fluid, necessary exchanges of information and follow‑ups between athletes, trainers, coaches, physicians and auxiliary medical personnel. Perform duties while traveling and working nights and weekends. Report any misconduct and/or actions not in accordance with department guidelines, policies, and procedures. Oversee and train assistants in physical therapy modalities employed; evaluate assistant’s competency and supervise performance of certain tasks as needed. Stay informed and knowledgeable of developments in the sports medicine field, as well as changing governmental and NCAA legislation and policies that may affect the sports medicine program’s guidelines and decision‑making. Read pertinent literature, attend meetings, seminars, and conferences, and maintain certification from the Board of Certification (BOC) and National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA). Perform other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications Master's degree in Athletic Training or related field. Entry‑level master’s athletic training curriculum. Experience in injury prevention, clinical evaluation, immediate care, treatment rehabilitation and reconditioning, organization, administration, and professional responsibility, as outlined by BOC. Comprehensive knowledge of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards for handling blood‑borne pathogens. Advanced proficiency in maintaining medical records, including FERPA and HIPAA standards. Ability to travel and work nights and weekends. Preferred Qualifications / Licenses and Certifications Certification from the Board of Certification (BOC). National Provider Identifier (NPI) number. Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider from American Heart Association. Fire Life Safety Training (LA City). If no card upon hire, one must be obtained within 30 days of hire and maintained by renewal before expiration date (required within LA City only).
