Teacher Assistant | Hockessin, Delaware

Job Description

Minimum 6 months Paraprofessional or Special Education experience required. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.

Embark on a rewarding opportunity supporting elementary students in a vital paraprofessional capacity for a contract position. This role offers a chance to develop specialized skills while contributing to the growth and well-being of children with unique needs. The assignment runs from April 20, 2026, to June 11, 2026, with hours from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday, including a paid 30-minute lunch daily. The position requires a consistent and dedicated presence, as each child’s steadiness relies on your reliable support.

What you’ll bring:

Current paraprofessional certification or completion of 60 college credit hours (or willingness to pass the paraeducator exam before starting)
Genuine passion for working with elementary-aged children exhibiting high behavioral needs
Willingness and ability to maintain close, hands-on support throughout the school day
Strong commitment to reliable attendance and punctuality
Comfort with feeding supervision (no tube feeding required) and toileting responsibilities
Ability to remain fully attentive and off personal devices during active support hours
Willingness to commute regularly to specified locations in Wilmington and Claymont, DE
Willingness to complete $85 fingerprinting/background check

What you’ll do:

Provide one-on-one and 2:1 support for students with high needs and self-injurious behaviors
Supervise feeding according to trained plans
Administer hand-over-hand and self-care assistance, including toileting
Collaborate and communicate with school staff and families for optimal student support

Certified RBTs are welcome, but must secure their own supervision outside school hours to maintain certification.
