We are looking for a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to support core accounting operations for a Long-term Contract position based in San Luis Obispo, California. This role will contribute to accurate financial reporting, tax-related activities, and day-to-day ledger management while partnering with internal stakeholders to maintain strong accounting controls. The ideal candidate brings hands-on experience across reconciliations, journal activity, and corporate tax processes in a deadline-driven environment.
Responsibilities:• Prepare and record journal entries to ensure financial transactions are accurately reflected in the accounting records.
• Maintain and review the general ledger, investigating variances and resolving discrepancies in a timely manner.
• Perform balance sheet reconciliations and follow through on outstanding items to support accurate month-end reporting.
• Assist with corporate tax activities, including gathering documentation and supporting the preparation of tax filings.
• Manage sales tax processes by reviewing taxable transactions, compiling data, and helping ensure timely submissions.
• Support the preparation of corporate tax return information by organizing financial data and validating account details.
• Collaborate with finance and operational teams to improve accuracy in reporting and uphold accounting compliance standards.• Experience in staff accounting with responsibility for general ledger activity and financial reconciliations.
• Working knowledge of corporate tax concepts, including support for tax filings and related documentation.
• Familiarity with sales tax review, reporting, and compliance requirements.
• Ability to prepare journal entries accurately and maintain organized supporting records.
• Strong understanding of balance sheet reconciliation procedures and account analysis.
• Proficiency in identifying discrepancies, researching issues, and resolving accounting variances.
• Effective communication skills and the ability to manage deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
