Personal Banker

Location: 2421 Main Street - Buffalo, New York 14214 Job Summary Be a problem solver, trusted advisor, and partner to the people and businesses in our KeyBank communities. Personal Bankers engage clients in deeper conversations to uncover needs and provide guidance and solutions to assist in client financial wellness both in person and through proactive calling efforts. Working as part of the branch team, the Personal Banker attracts new clients to Key and works with existing clients to develop and expand relationships based on their unique financial goals, leading to client confidence in their finances. Essential Functions Embodies a strong client experience culture, being present with every client and teammate. Listen for clues for financial wellness opportunities during in‑person and over the phone client conversations and provide effective and customized recommendations. Consistently attain individual activity, behavior, and outcome goals and expectations. Open personal and business accounts (consumer checking, small business, various deposit products, home equity, unsecured lending, certificates of deposit, etc.). Develop strong partnerships with branch teammates and line of business partners to focus on client acquisition and deepen relationships with current clients. Ensure compliance with operational, risk, security and audit procedures and policies including appropriate documentation of client interactions. Support branch operations, including assisting with client transactions on the teller line as needed. Participate in and occasionally facilitate in‑person morning huddles and end‑of‑day debriefs. Work Saturdays as directed by management. Perform other duties as assigned; duties may change or new ones assigned at any time with or without notice. Comply with all KeyBank policies and procedures, including acting professionally, conducting business ethically, avoiding conflicts of interest, and acting in the best interests of Key’s clients and Key. Education & Experience High School Diploma, GED or equivalent business experience (required) or Bachelor’s Degree (preferred). Minimum 1 year of experience in developing current and new customer relationships, achieving sales goals, and building referral sources. Experience with sales is more important than financial services experience. Understanding of consumer credit – including loan to value, debt to income and credit reports. Foundational knowledge of sales and service techniques with clients, including tele‑consulting, outside calling, prospecting, and networking. Comfortable interacting with small business clients, overcoming objection, and asking fact‑finding questions with the goal of being helpful (preferred). Demonstrated experience with influencing business partners and leveraging centers of influence. Working knowledge of PCs (MS Windows and Office Products including Word, Excel, etc.). Working knowledge of digital technology (mobile, apps, web‑based browsing) and ability to educate clients on digital platforms and capabilities within Key. Licenses & Certifications Notary License (preferred). Skills Knowledgeable about the client’s accounts and business with the bank and uses sound judgment in client interactions. Demonstrated ability to attain sales and referral goals through preset appointments and quality conversations. Strong work ethic and high level of integrity. Excellent time management skills. Building and nurturing relationships with clients, identifying potential clients, and developing strategies to convert them into long‑term clients. Excellent client service to build trust and encourage continued banking with KeyBank. Ability to evaluate financial information to understand clients’ financial health, identify investment opportunities, and recommend strategies. Understanding and managing risks associated with banking operations and client transactions. Strong verbal and non‑verbal communication skills to understand client needs and recommend appropriate banking products and services. Accurate and efficient handling of cash transactions. Physical Demands Consumer Retail – Prolonged standing (5-8 hours per day), frequent use of hands to manipulate objects, occasional bending and lifting from floor height, frequent forward reach, lifting 1–10 lbs. occasionally up to 30 lbs. Driving Requirements Ability to routinely and frequently operate a motor vehicle with a valid driver’s license. Compensation and Benefits This position is eligible to earn a base hourly rate in the range of $20.67 - $31.25 per hour. Compensation includes incentive compensation which may include production, commission, and/or discretionary incentives.
