Position Overview We are seeking a part-time (9 months) Athletic Trainer to support student‑athletes across university athletic programs. This vital healthcare role provides consistent, on‑site coverage during practices, competitions, and training sessions, focusing on injury prevention, assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation. The primary purpose of this position is to deliver high‑quality, evidence‑based sports medicine services that promote athlete wellness, minimize injuries, and support overall performance. The Athletic Trainer will work with multiple sports throughout the academic year, with schedules that vary based on team practices, games, and seasonal athletic demands. This position is ideal for a flexible, motivated professional committed to athlete health, safety, and performance. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in a related field and two years of related experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of the principles and practices of athletic training, injury prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation. Knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, and best practices related to student‑athlete health and safety, including FERPA, HIPAA, and concussion protocols. Skill in evaluating athletic injuries and developing effective treatment and return‑to‑play plans. Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively interact with student‑athletes, coaches, medical personnel, and administrators. Ability to remain calm and take immediate, appropriate action in emergency situations. Ability to maintain accurate and confidential medical records in compliance with institutional and legal standards. Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and adapt to changing schedules, including evenings and weekends. Proficient in using injury tracking software, Microsoft Office Suite, and other digital tools related to documentation and communication. Commitment to ongoing professional development and staying current with advancements in sports medicine and athletic training. Preferred Qualifications Master’s degree in athletic training, Sports Medicine, Kinesiology, or a closely related field. Current certification by the Board of Certification (BOC) and eligibility for, or possession of, Texas state licensure. Previous athletic training experience in a collegiate, high school, or clinical sports medicine setting. Experience working with student‑athlete populations and an understanding of holistic student development. Certification in CPR/AED and First Aid, with experience responding to on‑field or emergency medical situations. Familiarity with NCAA, NAIA, or other governing body rules related to athletic health care and return‑to‑play standards. Experience with electronic medical records systems or injury tracking software (e.g., ATS, SportsWare, Healthy Roster). Strong organizational skills with demonstrated ability to manage multiple teams, travel schedules, and administrative responsibilities. Ability to collaborate effectively as part of a multidisciplinary health care team, including team physicians, physical therapists, and counseling staff. Commitment to ethical practice, evidence‑based care, and continued professional growth in athletic training or sports medicine. Required License/Registration/Certifications Current certification by the Board of Certification (BOC) for Athletic Trainers. Licensed or eligible for licensure as an Athletic Trainer in the State of Texas in accordance with state regulations. Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification from an approved provider such as the American Red Cross or American Heart Association. Concussion management training and certification, consistent with state law and institutional policies. Compliance with all continuing education requirements to maintain professional certification and state licensure. Job Duties Provides on‑site injury prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation services for student‑athletes during practices, games, and training sessions. Develops and implements injury prevention programs and return‑to‑play protocols in collaboration with coaches and health care providers. Maintains accurate and confidential medical records, injury reports, and treatment logs in compliance with institutional, conference, and legal guidelines. Communicates regularly with coaches, student‑athletes, and administrators regarding injury status, treatment plans, and participation clearance. Coordinates emergency response plans for athletic‑related injuries and ensures readiness of emergency equipment and procedures at all athletic events. Schedules and coordinates referrals to physicians or specialists and follows up on recommendations and recovery progress. Assists with development and enforcement of health and safety policies, including concussion management, heat illness prevention, and COVID‑related protocols. Supervises and mentors student workers or interns, if applicable, and participates in continuing education to maintain certification and knowledge of best practices.
