General Maintenance Technician

Purpose of Position and Scope of Responsibility The General Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining the university's buildings, facilities, and grounds in a safe, functional, and attractive condition. This position performs a variety of preventive maintenance, repair, and general maintenance tasks to support the daily operations of the campus. The General Maintenance Technician contributes to a safe and welcoming environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors by responding promptly to maintenance requests and ensuring campus facilities are well maintained. Principal Accountabilities/Responsibilities Adhere to all safety standards, work practices, policies and procedures established by the University, Manager of Facilities, and supervisor. Program, operate, and monitor the performance of the computerized climate control system; perform maintenance and repair of the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems to ensure proper operation of boilers, pumps, water heaters, air handling units, pneumatic systems, fans, and other related equipment. Perform routine maintenance on the various building mechanical systems; repair and/or replacing pumps and motors, change belts and filters, and lubricate various moving parts. Perform maintenance tasks such as minor equipment repairs, lock repair or replacement, install shelves and cabinets, move furniture and equipment, etc. Remove snow and ice from campus areas and walkways; spread salt on walkways entrances On-call responsibilities to respond to heating/cooling system breakdowns or malfunctions, and/or other facility emergencies. Event Set up and break down. Performs related accountabilities/responsibilities as required or directed. Minimum Qualifications Knowledge/Education Experience Licensure, Registration, Certification High School Diploma or GED Valid Driver’s License Desired Qualifications Knowledge/Education Bachelor’s degree or certifications in related field(s). Experience 1 year of commercial maintenance experience. Basic carpentry. Licensure, Registration, Certification Working knowledge of plumbing, electric, HVAC. Physical Requirements Work requires the physical demands of standing, bending, lifting, stooping or performing other work requiring moderate to heavy physical exertion (up to 30 pounds) on an occasional basis (up to 15% of time) and frequent walking; or moderate physical exertion (up to 50 pounds) on an intermittent basis (not a routine part of the job).
