Mechanical Assembler - 1st Shift - $25/hr-$27/hr Job Description
This role combines mechanical assembly, wire and cable harness assembly, and quality inspection and testing in a highly computerized manufacturing environment. You will build electro-mechanical subassemblies by following detailed electronic work instructions, use a manufacturing execution system to document every step, and perform firmware loading, functional testing, and troubleshooting on devices and PCBAs. The position requires strong hands-on assembly skills, solid computer proficiency, and the ability to follow build plans and procedures with absolute accuracy.

The role is highly computer-centric; you will use a laptop throughout the day to access the manufacturing execution system (42Q), follow electronic work instructions, load firmware, run test scripts, and document all work. Outlook and Microsoft Teams are used daily for communication. The standard work schedule is Monday to Friday, 10:00 AM to 6:30 PM, with approximately two months of training on a different schedule while shadowing a technician and receiving coaching. There is a daily stand-up meeting at 7:00 AM for assignment of work and coordination with the team. After about three months, you will transition to another area, providing exposure to different aspects of the operation while maintaining strict adherence to build plans and procedures.

Responsibilities
- Assemble electro-mechanical subassemblies, including mechanical components, wires, cables, and harnesses, according to detailed electronic work instructions.
- Use the manufacturing execution system (currently 42Q) to open work instructions, follow each step, and record completion of every manufacturing task.
- Connect wires and harnesses to modules and PCBAs by hand using screwdrivers, wrenches, torque wrenches, power drills, needle nose pliers, wire strippers, and wire crimpers.
- Follow build plans and work instructions exactly with no deviation, ensuring all steps are completed in the correct sequence.
- Install firmware onto PCBAs by opening the appropriate program on a laptop and running scripts to upload firmware.
- Perform functional testing by selecting the correct test area of the device, entering and running the appropriate test code, and verifying that the code runs properly.
- Attach test cables to subassemblies, load programs, and run scripts to execute tests and confirm device performance.
- Use the manufacturing execution system to document all manufacturing and testing activities, creating a complete electronic device history record.
- Verify test results by selecting the area to be checked, generating verification numbers, entering them into the computer, and reviewing software pass/fail feedback.
- Troubleshoot failures by identifying errors indicated by the software, investigating root causes, and making appropriate corrections to assemblies or processes.
- Perform inspection of assembled parts and subassemblies to ensure they meet quality and build standards.
- Use hand and small power tools safely and effectively throughout the assembly and testing process.
- Participate in daily 7:00 AM stand-up meetings to receive work assignments, review build plans, and align on daily goals with the team.
- Collaborate closely with technicians and team members, especially during training and troubleshooting activities.
- Communicate clearly with team members and leaders about issues found during testing, the troubleshooting steps taken, and the outcomes.
- Maintain a strong focus on accuracy, documentation, and compliance with established procedures in an ESD-controlled environment.
- Previous experience in electro-mechanical sub-assembly, including both mechanical and electrical components.
- Proven experience testing and troubleshooting devices or assemblies in a prior role, including a clear, structured troubleshooting process.
- Ability to follow detailed work instructions precisely with no deviation from the build plan.
- Strong computer proficiency, including navigating software, opening and closing work instructions, and using a laptop for all aspects of the job.
- Experience using a manufacturing execution system (such as 42Q) or similar shop order system to track work and enter data.
- Proficiency with hand and small power tools, including screwdrivers, wire strippers, crimpers, wrenches, torque wrenches, needle nose pliers, and small power drills.
- Comfort working with wiring, wire harness assembly, and basic electronics concepts.
- Ability to perform inspection and basic quality checks on mechanical and electro-mechanical assemblies.
- Strong communication skills to explain troubleshooting steps, issues found, and interactions with team leads.
- Team-oriented mindset with the ability to work closely with others in a tight, collaborative environment.
- Experience working with PCBAs, including loading firmware and running test scripts.
- Familiarity with oscilloscopes or other electronic test equipment.
- Experience in repair or rework of mechanical or electro-mechanical assemblies.
- Comfort using Outlook and Microsoft Teams on a daily basis for communication and coordination.
- Ability to adapt to different work areas and tasks over time, including rotation to other areas after initial training.
- Willingness to be coached, shadow technicians, and continuously develop technical and troubleshooting skills.
- Strong attention to detail and documentation discipline to maintain accurate electronic device history records.
