Systems Administrator

Overview The System Administrator’s role is to manage and tune in-house computer software systems and network connections to ensure high levels of availability and security of the supported business applications. This individual also participates in the planning and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure system provisioning and maintenance that is consistent with company goals, industry best practices, and regulatory requirements. Responsibilities Maintain open communication lines with all working relationships Follow up to ensure items for which the job is accountable are performed Earn and maintain customer’s trust Uphold the core values of the organization Work well with others to accomplish the mission of the organization and of the job Strategy & Planning: participate in and support capacity planning and the development of long-term strategic goals for systems and software in conjunction with end-users and department managers Acquisition & Deployment: coordinate with network engineering, business application, and database administration functions to implement desktop and server systems that utilize industry best practices to meet corporate objectives; deploy and maintain workstations, servers, printers, scanners and host security systems Operational Management: manage all operating systems and end-user software; manage and increase performance of enterprise systems; manage and resolve issues affecting network connectivity and communications including cloud services, email, Teams, workstation and LAN connections and Internet applications Ensure the integrity and security of enterprise data on host computers and during data transfer in accordance with business needs and industry best-practices regarding privacy, security, and regulatory compliance Manage input/output fleet, including printers and scanners; manage end user accounts, permissions, access rights, and storage allocations in accordance with best-practices regarding privacy, security, and regulatory compliance Perform and test routine backups; anticipate, mitigate, identify, troubleshoot, and resolve hardware and software problems on servers, input/output fleet, and workstations Escalate incidents as necessary; implement effective systems asset management by maintaining comprehensive hardware and software inventories, along with up-to-date documentation and technical specifications Analyze system, server, application, network, and input/output device performance; recommend, schedule, and perform software and hardware improvements, upgrades, patches, reconfigurations, and/or purchases Conduct research on emerging products, services, protocols, and standards in support of systems; software procurement and development efforts Create required reports in response to business user needs; participate in negotiations with vendors, outsourcers, and contractors to secure software products and services Develop, document, and maintain policies, procedures and associated training plans for system administration and appropriate use Manage and/or provide guidance to junior members of the team Other duties as may be assigned Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Applicable data privacy practices and laws Experience across a broad range of Microsoft Infrastructure Technologies, including Windows Operating Systems, Active Directory, Entra ID, Microsoft 365, Collaborative Communications and workspaces Intune Management and Deployment Writing Windows PowerShell scripts for automation or maintenance Windows 2016 to 2022 and its accompanying roles and features Active Directory Domain Services including Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, and Sites & Services Strong knowledge of TCP/IP Networking in a LAN and WAN environment Set up, support, and configure workstations, including deploying and creating packages for software installation, imaging, and patching with Intune and NinjaOne Utilize Zendesk ticketing system, including authoring and maintaining knowledge base articles Knowledge of FortiNet products is a plus Skills Excellent writing, organizational and communication skills with leadership Network and security knowledge Software and hardware troubleshooting; documenting and maintaining configuration and process information Customer service, analytical and problem-solving abilities Interpersonal and oral communication; ability to interpret technical documentation Keen attention to detail; team-oriented collaborative environment Managing Microsoft Office 365 backend infrastructure including Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint, and OneDrive; Windows Azure as it relates to IaaS Familiarity with third-party construction software (e.g., Revit, AutoCAD, Bluebeam) is a plus Abilities Work independently and manage projects to completion on time and on budget Own a technical support issue and see its resolution Suggest process and technical improvements for preventive actions Work effectively in a collaborative environment with highly skilled professionals Self-adapt to changing IT infrastructure; understand organizational goals and objectives Prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment; conduct hardware and software research as required Present ideas and solutions in user-friendly language; self-motivate and direct Physical Requirements Driving Sitting Climbing Lifting up to 50 lbs Standing Stooping Vision acuity (near and far) Walking Requirements College diploma or university degree in computer science and/or more than three years of equivalent work experience; certifications in Microsoft (MSCA, MSCE) or Cisco (CCNA) preferred. Limited local travel required.
