Principal Engineer, AI Platform

Responsibilities

• Define and drive the technical strategy and architecture for Ridgeline’s AI platform and shared AI capabilities.
• Lead technical decisions supporting scalable, reliable, secure, and responsible use of AI platform capabilities.
• Resolve systemic obstacles affecting the platform’s availability, usability, extensibility, and reliability.
• Establish engineering standards and production reliability and evaluation approaches for AI models.
• Partner across Engineering, Product, Data, and other functions to align AI platform investments with company priorities and customer outcomes.
• Architect retrieval-augmented generation solutions integrating external data stores and build token-efficient systems such as model routing and code execution.
• Evaluate new AI features and resolve technical debates to align teams on effective approaches.

Requirements

• 15+ years of software engineering experience with deep systems architecture expertise.
• Significant experience building and shipping AI-powered products in production, including agentic loops, structured responses, tool calling, Model Context Protocol, and retrieval-augmented generation.
• Experience designing scalable and efficient system architectures and evaluating technologies for AI system components.
• Experience establishing software development best practices and reliability and evaluation standards for production AI models.
• Full-stack front-end and back-end AI product development experience with proficiency in Kotlin, TypeScript, and React.
• Experience working with Anthropic and/or OpenAI models and APIs.
• A track record of driving technical or architectural decisions and aligning stakeholders across teams.
• Experience integrating third-party data sources and improving AI model performance and token efficiency in production.
• Bonus experience with multi-agent systems, AI agent orchestration, advanced model evaluation, financial services or investment management, or open-source AI/ML contributions and publications.

• Typical starting base salary is $253,000-$316,000; select locations may use an alternate range of $278,000-$347,500.
