Position Summary

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing routine and corrective maintenance on facility infrastructure, machinery, and equipment to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operations. This role supports production continuity by diagnosing issues, completing repairs, and carrying out preventive maintenance activities in accordance with safety and quality standards.

This position is designed for a skilled and dependable technical professional with strong troubleshooting abilities and hands‑on mechanical aptitude. The Maintenance Technician works collaboratively with operations and engineering teams to minimize downtime, maintain equipment performance, and support Universal Fabricating’s commitment to operational excellence and high‑quality manufacturing.

Key responsibilities

1. Performing routine maintenance around the facility such as fixing structural damage, for example, window, door, or a wall repair.

1. Replace worn or damaged parts and components as needed.

1. Fixing potential safety hazards to avoid injuries.

1. Communicating existing and potential issues with the Maintenance Manager and assisting them with repairs.

1. Solving mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues on various production and facility equipment.

1. Reading, Analysing, and interpreting technical procedures, electrical schematics, blueprints, service manual, and work orders to perform required maintenance work.

1. (Dis)assembling / installing new machines, condition monitoring sensors, equipment, etc.

1. Evaluating, repairing, and maintaining plumbing, carpentry, electrical, and HVAC systems in the building.

1. Test and inspect newly installed equipment to verify proper operation.

1. Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, including reports, parts used, and time spent.

1. Document and report equipment malfunctions, maintenance issues, and repair actions.

1. Conduct regular inspections and identify potential issues before they lead to equipment failure.

1. Order and replenish materials and parts as needed to ensure availability for maintenance tasks.

1. Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines while performing maintenance tasks to ensure a safe working enviroment.

1. Other related duties as required.

Qualifications

1. Previous experience in a maintenance role, including hands-on experience with industry specific equipment and machinery.

1. Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, as well as experience with diagnostic and repair tools.

1. Ability to troubleshoot and resolve basic maintenance issues effectively.

1. Keen attention to detail to ensure accurate repairs and proper maintenance procedures.

1. Good verbal and written communication skills for interacting with team members and documenting maintenance activities.

1. Ability to manage multiple tasks, maintain records, and keep work areas organized.

1. Understanding of safety protocols and regulations related to maintenance tasks.

1. Ability to work in a physically demanding enviroment.

Education and Experience

1. High school diploma or GED is preferred.

1. Vocational training or a certification in a related field (HVAC, electrical, mechanical, etc.) is preferred.

1. Lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs.

Work Environment

1. Varying temperatures and noise levels.

1. Exposure to dust, oil, fumes, grease and other conditions.

1. Occasional exposure to confined spaces.

Potential Hazards

1. Repetitive strain injuries(using tools lifting parts, repetitive movements).

1. Slips, trips, and falls (wet floors, clutter, uneven surfaces).

1. Electrical hazards (working with wiring, equipment, risk of shock).

1. Machinery hazards (moving parts, pinch points, improper use of tools).

1. Exposure to chemicals or fumes (cleaners, oils, solvents, poor ventilation).
